Ex-Leeds Manager Marcelo Bielsa Puts Premier League Clubs On Alert After What’s Happened In Uruguay
Ex-Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa could yet have unfinished business in the Premier League after an update on his managerial future.
The iconic manager has led clubs including Athletic Bilbao, Lazio and Marseille, as well as both the Argentine and Chilean national teams. However, he is best known on these shores for his time with Leeds United.
The 70-year-old in the summer of 2018 and stayed at the club for almost four years with huge success. Playing his trademark ‘Bielsa-ball’ style of play, Leeds tore it up in the Championship and earned promotion in 2020 after finishing 10 points clear of their nearest rivals.
In their first season in the top flight, Leeds finished ninth and earned more points and scored more goals than any promoted side in the 20 years previous.
While he left the club the following year, Bielsa holds legendary status at Elland Road but could be back in England before too long.
Marcelo Bielsa Lined Up For Premier League Return
Bielsa could be back in the Premier League ‘within the next year’, according to Alan Nixon’s Patreon.
It’s reported that the veteran boss may quit his current role with the Uruguay national team after next summer’s World Cup after coming under criticism from supporters. That suggestion has led to numerous club hierarchies watching on with interest.
Clubs may already be looking to next summer as they assess their managers’ situations and with Bielsa seemingly available, it could force a number of clubs to take action.
Bielsa is likely to have a lot of options available to him when he does leave his post as the Uruguay boss, but none will be more appealing than a club in the Premier League.
It’s unlikely that he’ll attract a role with one of the top clubs in England, but there’s no doubting that his style would go down well with the majority of clubs in the top flight.
One club who could be looking for a new boss soon is Bielsa’s former club, Leeds United.
A 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa has left the Yorkshire side in the bottom three if the Premier League and means that they have a massive job on their hands if they’re to keep their heads above water come the end of the season.
As a result, Daniel Farke is feeling the heat and the potential return of Bielsa would undoubtedly set pulses racing at Elland Road, even if it is unlikely.
