Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly waiting in the wings to take over at Borussia Dortmund.
Nuri Sahin’s job is hanging by a thread after a humiliating defeat at the hands of Bundesliga minnows Holstein Kiel.
Dortmund started the day eighth in the league, having won just once in their last seven matches, but were roundly beaten 4-2 at the Holstein-Stadion on Tuesday evening, having conceded three before half-time.
Sky Germany were reporting before the match that while Sahin still retains the support of the board, Ten Hag has already been in contact with the club.

But that patience will be tested to the maximum after a shocking result against a side 17th in the Bundesliga.
Ten Hag has not coached since his sacking at United earlier this season, being axed on October 29 after a 2-1 defeat to West Ham.
That decision came after United’s board had decided to trigger a contract extension in the summer after the Red Devils won the FA Cup last season against Manchester City.
But despite being heavily backed in the transfer window with signings including Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt, United suffered a dismal start to the season.
Ten Hag was sacked with the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League and was replaced by Ruben Amorim from Sporting.

However, the Dutchman did bring silverware back to Old Trafford including the aforementioned FA Cup – as well as the Carabao Cup the season before.
Ten Hag is still regarded as a top coach in the Bundesliga, where he took charge of Bayern Munich II while Pep Guardiola was at the club.
There had been reports that the 54-year-old could return to Ajax, who he managed from 2018 to 2022 before joining the Red Devils.

But he now looks the hot favourite to move to Signal Iduna Park, should the board decide to cut ties with Sahin.
The former Real Madrid and Liverpool midfielder was promoted to the role of head coach from assistant at BVB last summer after Edin Terzic was sacked.
However, the 36-year-old has struggled in the role to date and has long been battling rumours that he could be axed.

After being knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by VfL Wolfsburg in October, he said: “It’s not about my personal situation.
“It’s about moving the club forward, getting back on the right track as quickly as possible and winning our games.
“It’s not about me. It’s about the club and I have a responsibility as a coach.
“Believe me, it’s also extremely bitter and disappointing for me that we’re in such a situation right now. There’s nothing else we can do but carry on.”
