Ex-San Diego Padres chief Ron Fowler set to take ownership of Lincoln City

League One promotion contenders Lincoln City have announced that a change in ownership is in the works as Michael Skubala’s side continue to push for a place in the Championship

Ron Fowler, the former co-owner of the Major League Baseball side San Diego Padres, is set to take a controlling stake in Lincoln City, the League One club have announced.

Fowler and his son, Andrew, through their Liquid Investment venture, acquired a minority stake in Lincoln back in April 2024. Fowler tabled a proposal at a board meeting in December to take his shareholding above 25 per cent in a move which would see him assume the position of chairman.

The change in ownership, which has been underway since prior to the start of the season, has been smooth and will not affect the club’s January transfer plans. The Imps’ current chair, Clive Nates, will remain an integral figure within the club and will join Jay Wright as co-vice chairman.

Fowler, a leading figure in the beverage industry in the United States, was chairman of the Padres until 2020 after heading up a group that took control of the MLB side in 2012.

Lincoln have enjoyed a fine season under the guidance of Michael Skubala and are among the teams vying for automatic promotion to the Championship after a period of progression both on and off the pitch.

The club have garnered a positive reputation for developing talent in recent years, with the likes of Brennan Johnson, Morgan Rogers and Carl Rushworth all excelling during loan spells at the LNER Stadium. Jovon Makama, a graduate of Lincoln’s academy, is the club’s latest success story, with the 21-year-old striker plundering nine goals since making the step up to the Championship with Norwich City in a seven-figure deal in the summer.

The Imps are currently second in League One, four points behind Cardiff City, after winning 14 of their 25 games so far this term.
