Fernandes opens scoring with scruffy goal
Wolves’ dire start to the season looked set to continue after they conceded a terrible goal to Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes at Molineux.
Diogo Dalot had a great early chance for the visitors but saw his low shot saved well by Sam Johnstone.
Plenty of Wolves fans stayed outside of the stadium until the 15th minute in protest at the club’s current performance on and off the field.
And after they had returned, United scored a goal largely of Wolves’ own making.
Andre dallied on the ball in midfield, Casemiro tackled him and the ball ran on to former Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.
He squared the ball for Fernandes, who slipped in the rain but still had time to get up and somehow squeeze the ball through Johnstone and in.
The home fans loudly sang ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’ and boos rang out from the stands, before Johnstone did well to save from Cunha.
Wolves have just two points from their first 14 Premier League games coming into Monday’s match, the joint-fewest ever at this stage of a top-flight campaign along with Manchester United in 1930-31 (2 pts/win) and Sheffield United in 2020-21.
