Ferrari Slammed For Reaction to Lewis Hamilton’s Radio Message After Abu Dhabi GP
Lewis Hamilton’s first season as a Ferrari driver came to an end on Sunday at the Abu Dhabi GP, and his employers have been slammed for their reaction to his radio message following the race.
Big things were expected of Hamilton when he made the move from Mercedes to Ferrari last summer. However, his season didn’t go anywhere near as well as he and his fans would have hoped.
In the final Grand Prix of the 2025 season, Hamilton started in 16th as his woes in qualifying continued. It was the third consecutive time he had been knocked out in the first round of qualifying.
The Englishman was able to salvage a decent result for both himself and the team, though, as he recovered to finish in eighth. That earned him four points, meaning he finished sixth in the World Drivers’ Championship with 156 points.
Max Verstappen went on to win the race but Lando Norris’ third-place finished meant the Englishman picked up his first world title.
Ferrari Slammed for Radio Message
Hamilton would have been disappointed with his performance in the race and the season as a whole, but that didn’t stop him delivering a heartfelt message to his team after he crossed the finish line. He said:
“Long season, guys. Grazie a tutti. [Thank you for] your kindness. I’m grateful for all the hard work. I’ll always fight for you guys. Always. Grazie.”
Hamilton’s message was initially met with silence, though. After a short while, Hamilton followed up by saying: “[did you] get that message? The one time you don’t reply…”
His race engineer, Riccardo Adami, was quick to respond to that as he said with a chuckle: “We got it, yeah. We were talking. Thank you very much. It was awesome working with you. And grazie mille.”
The radio message has gone viral on social media with some Formula 1 fans accusing Ferrari of disrespecting the F1 legend.
“Scuderia Ferrari is just utterly disrespectful. Really disgusting behaviour”, one commented. Another said: “Get. Him. OUT. Of. Ferrari.”
One F1 fan wrote: ” ‘I don’t even like Hamilton… but this is crazy stuff”, while a fourth fan of the sport stated: “‘He deserves so much better than this”.
Lewis Hamilton Thanks Fans After Tough Season
Hamilton paid tribute to his supporters and his family after the toughest season of his career came to an end.
“I’ve had an amazing support from so many people that travel around the world, supporting me or sending me messages, so my fans have been the thing that have kept me going, really have been the rock,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1, per Crash.net.
“My mum has really been phenomenal, supportive, my dad and my family as well. I would say just luckily I’ve got those good people around me and then, as I said, each weekend I see young kids and adults rooting me on and reminding me why I do what I do and not to give up.”
Hamilton’s contract at Ferrari runs until the end of the 2026 season, but there are rumours that he could retire from the sport over the next few months.
