Fulham v Manchester City: Line-ups, stats and preview
Match Preview for Fulham v Manchester City
Manchester City will aim to put more pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race after gaining ground on them over the weekend when they travel to face Fulham on Tuesday.
City bounced back from successive defeats to Newcastle United and Bayer Leverkusen with a 3-2 win over Leeds United on Saturday, though they required an injury-time winner from Phil Foden to do so.
With Arsenal held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man Chelsea, City are five points adrift of the Gunners at the top of the table.
They can cut the gap to two points with victory at Craven Cottage ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Brentford on Wednesday.
City have won their last seven games away at Fulham, who haven’t won in this fixture at Craven Cottage since 2005.
Yet with Marco Silva’s men coming off a surprise 2-1 win at Tottenham, City manager Pep Guardiola is expecting a tough test from the hosts.
“Marco has been there many years there and always it has been a really tough game,” Guardiola said in his pre-match news conference.
“[It will be] difficult. The organisation is exceptional and every year with the ball they’re even better.
“A tough, tough opponent, I saw their games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Sunderland and always it’s so difficult for the opponent to break them up.”
And Silva indicating his side will approach the game with fearlessness following a recent upturn in form after wins over Sunderland and Tottenham.
“City is one of the teams that is dominating the Premier League many years, winning titles or fighting for them until the last moments of the season,” Silva told FFCtv. “It’s always going to be a tough game anytime you play against a City side or a Pep Guardiola side too.
“For us it’s a good moment, six points in two games, back-to-back wins, great reaction and let’s go for it.
“Under the lights at the Cottage is always something special too and let’s hope, with the right environment in our stadium with us pushing our fans and the fans playing with ourselves, let’s hope we can get a good result and fight for the three points.”
