'Genius' Reporter Praised For Estevao Interview After Chelsea 3-0 Barcelona

Amazon Prime’s Champions League reporter Alex Aljoe produced a masterclass in post-match interviewing when she caught up with Estevao Willian following Chelsea‘s impressive dismantling of Barcelona – a match which ended 3-0 to the hosts – on Tuesday night. Fans have been taken aback by her brilliant linguistic skills.

Enzo Maresca‘s Blues, galvanised by Ronald Araujo’s first-half red card perhaps, were at the races from start to finish and their efforts resulted in adding another three points to the league phase table. As things stand, they sit fifth on ten points.

As impressive as the Premier League outfit’s performance was the linguistic skills of Aljoe, who was involved in Prime Video’s coverage of the blockbuster European clash. She spoke to Estevao, who dazzled against Hansi Flick’s men, all while flicking between Portuguese and English.

Signed from Palmeiras in the summer of 2025, the 18-year-old – affectionately nicknamed ‘Steve’ – spoke to Aljoe after yet another brilliant goal at Europe’s top table. The teenager’s goal – his side’s second of the affair – was sandwiched by Jules Kounde’s own goal and Liam Delap’s finish in the 73rd minute, which put the icing on the cake.

In the danger man’s native language, Portuguese, Aljoe started: “Congratulations! A perfect night for Chelsea and for you personally,” and Estevao, widely regarded as one of the best teenagers in world football, replied with joy:

“I don’t really have any words to sum up how I’m feeling right now. As you said, it really was the perfect night and I’m just grateful to God for making everything happen for me – and it’s just onwards and upwards from here.”

Aljoe also touched upon the young and exciting winger’s goal in the 55th minute. “What a goal! Talk us through that goal from how you saw it,” she asked. In response, he said: “It was all very quick for me, it sort of just happened before I even knew it.

“I sort of just found some space, wiggled my way through and then scored that goal. It was such a special moment for me in my career and I hope to score many more.”

Trying to prise further detail out of Estevao, Aljoe straight-up asked whether it was the greatest moment of the Chelsea ace’s career so far. With utter delight across his face, the Brazilian agreed before suggesting that “scoring more and more” is hopefully on the cards.

“The fans were calling your name – ‘Steveo, Steveo!” she then stated. “Do you feel a big connection with the fans here at Chelsea?”

Estevao, again, replied in Spanish but Aljoe brilliantly translated back into English for all the viewers in the United Kingdom. “From the moment I arrived here at Chelsea, I felt such a connection with the fans. He said he’s just so happy that he can score for them, make them happy and he hopes that he will score many more goals for them.”

Fans React to Aljoe Impressive Language Skills For Fantastic Estevao Interview

This is not the first time supporters have been awe-struck by Aljoe’s impressive ability to switch from one language to another all while remaining professional and sticking to the task at hand. In mid-September, she stunned viewers after conversing, in Spanish, with Martin Zubimendi in the wake of his brace in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

This time around, they’ve been equally complimentary, with one pointing out how seamless she makes the transition between the two languages appear. “The best in the business Alex is with her translation. Really is amazing.” Another said: “She’s the best out there by a mile.”

“One of the best post match interviews I’ve seen. Helping a young talent express himself to a new audience, mirroring his emotion after a great moment. Take a bow, Alex Aljoe.”

“How good is she? Get her on Sky Sports! She’s superb!” another supporter asked, as they are evidently keen to have her as part of the broadcasting teams across all fronts. “Brilliant interview. Flawlessly switching between two languages and keeping viewers informed,” one said as a fifth fan concluded: “This reporter is a genius.”
