Viktor Hovland has shared details about a bizarre injury he shared in the bedroom – and he is not the only golf superstar to suffer at home recently.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler required surgery after getting glass fragments embedded in his hand whilst preparing Christmas dinner just before the PGA Tour gets underway.

Norwegian Hovland, ranked eighth in the world, shared an X-ray on social media revealing what appears to be a broken toe after an unfortunate encounter with his bed frame.

Scheffler has been forced to withdraw from The Sentry tournament in Hawaii, whilst Hovland’s participation remains uncertain ahead of the January 2 start date.

Hovland broke the news of his unusual injury on Instagram last Friday, sharing an X-ray image of what appears to be his fractured right pinky toe.

The 27-year-old golfer humorously captioned the post: “Bed frame 1 – 0 me.”

Fellow PGA star Collin Morikawa responded to Hovland’s misfortune with a light-hearted comment: “I’m wrapping myself in some bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii.”

While Hovland remains listed in the field for The Sentry as of December 28, his ability to compete in the season opener at Kapalua remains unclear following the bedroom mishap.

Scheffler’s Christmas Day injury occurred while preparing dinner, when he sustained a puncture wound from broken glass in his right palm.

His manager Blake Smith explained: “Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.”

The incident marks an unfortunate end to what had been an exceptional 2024 for the World No. 1, during which he claimed nine victories including the Masters and Olympic gold.

The injury required immediate medical attention, with surgery necessary to remove the embedded glass fragments from his hand.

Smith confirmed Scheffler “has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks.”

The PGA Tour officially confirmed Scheffler’s withdrawal from the season-opening tournament in Hawaii.

“World No. 1 and 2024 FedEx Cup Champion Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament, The Sentry, which will take place next week, 2-5 January at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii,” the Tour stated.

Scheffler’s team has announced his next scheduled appearance will be at The American Express, set for January 16-19.

The timing is particularly unfortunate for Scheffler, who will miss the chance to build on his remarkable 2024 campaign at the prestigious season opener.
