Heart of Midlothian have signed defender Jamie McCart from Rotherham United for an undisclosed fee on a deal until 2029.
McCart, 27, won the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup with St Johnstone in the 2020-21 season, and was also part of the Leyton Orient side that won League Two in 2022-23.
The Scotland under-21 cap started his career with Celtic, and had spells with Inverness Caledonian Thistle, St Mirren and Alloa Athletic before joining the Perth Saints in 2020.
McCart then signed for Rotherham in 2022, before loan stints with Leyton Orient and Barnsley.
He has made 20 appearances for the Millers this season, and arrives at Tynecastle amid something of a defensive injury crisis.
Frankie Kent, Stephen Kingsley and Gerald Taylor are all currently unavailable, while Australia centre-back Kye Rowles has been linked with a move away from the club.
“It’s probably no secret that due to injuries sustained at the heart of our defence we were looking to strengthen in this position,” Hearts head coach Neil Critchley said. “We are delighted that we’ve got Jamie signed so early in the window.
“He is someone I’m aware of from his time at Rotherham and Barnsley and added to his SPFL experience we feel we are recruiting Jamie at a good stage of his career.
“Jamie already knows a lot about Hearts and has shown a real appetite to come and join us. We are confident his presence and leadership will help to improve us both in the short and long term.”
