The YouTuber-turned-boxer proposed to Jutta Leerdam earlier this year, six years after his controversial wedding with a fellow social media star

Jake Paul may be engaged to Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam, forking out $1million on a ring, but the social media sensation was previously at the heart of a rather chaotic wedding ceremony.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer takes on former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in a Miami melee on Friday night. Paul has not fought since defeating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr back in June. Since his professional debut, the 28-year-old has largely fought ex-MMA fighters, but arguably faces his toughest challenge yet in ‘AJ.’

His family is expected to make the trip down to the Kaseya Center in Miami, while his fiancee Leerdam will be watching on nervously. Back in March, Paul dropped down on one knee and popped the question in front of a picturesque setting in St Lucia. Much to the surprise of many, it’s not the first time the 28-year-old has found himself involved in such a joyous occasion.

Shortly after announcing her break up with ex-boyfriend Brad Sousa in April 2019, social media star Tana Mongeau set shockwaves after posting a selfie of herself with Paul. merely days later, they began making videos together – the first of which was titled ‘Meet the girl I’ve been hiding from you.’

Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will face off for a heavyweight clash in Miami on December 19. The fight will stream live on Netflix, which fans can get for free with Sky’s £15 Essential TV bundle, the brand’s ‘lowest ever price’ for Sky TV.

By June of that year, Paul appeared to propose to Mongeau on her 21st birthday. A month later, the pair married in Las Vegas – but not all was as it seemed. The ceremony – which was held at a customised Graffiti Mansion with their name, murals and wedding date – only lasted 10 minutes and started 30 minutes late.

Chaos ensued just before Paul’s close friend Armani Izadi proclaimed the two lovebirds husband and wife after a guest brutally threw a champagne at the couple – sparking ugly scenes that saw the groom land a barrage of punches. As MTV cameras chased the offender out of the venue, the physical altercation sent chairs flying, and it was only going to get worse.

Just minutes later, the entire party – which included Oprah and Bruno Mars impersonators – retreated to the Sugar Factory in Las Vegas to continue their night of carousing. The restaurant was packed to the rafters with the pair’s close friends. Fans were left stunned after footage emerged of the ‘Problem Child’ cutting the official cake with a giant sword and continued to cut away, sawing through the table as the frosting spilled onto the dance floor.

It was at that moment the restaurant decided to end the party before it was due to wrap up. “The owner of Sugar Factory is trying to shut us down right now,” Jake announced on a microphone at the time. “Low key he’s being a b****.” However, a spokesperson for the restaurant later told Page Six that the group was not kicked out. The two stars were then spotted leaving the restaurant in opposite directions.

That said, it soon emerged that they had not obtained a marriage licence and it lacked proper legal credentials. “To everybody that’s calling it fake because we rushed into it or because I don’t do things traditionally, because I wanted to not do it legally — any wedding I have, if I have three more f****** weddings, I really wouldn’t want to do it on paper, because I think that legally binding yourself to someone takes away the love,” Mongeau said on her official YouTube channel. “Like, it’s just unnecessary,” she added.

The pair eventually split up five months after their fake wedding. Paul later discussed the split, telling ET: “We all do things sometimes,” Paul began. “And sometimes you end up getting fake married. So I’ll leave it at that.” He added: “We were just arguing a lot over stupid stuff. I was getting mad at her and then I was being mean, and she was being mean, and then it just was a lot. So she was like, ‘I need to step back from this.’”
