Jake Paul reportedly brings in trainer who masterminded brutal knockout of Anthony Joshua
Jake Paul clashes with Anthony Joshua in just over a week’s time in an eight-round contest that few people are giving him a look in. He will, however, doing his absolute best to upset the odds, both inside and outside the ropes.
The YouTuber-turned fighter cancelled a planned exhibition bout against lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis and replaced it with a monumental main event — both in terms of hype and challenge — against former unified heavyweight king ‘AJ.’
Joshua returns to action after a sustained period on the sidelines following a knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in August of 2024. The bruising fifth round stoppage ended his attempt to regain the IBF world title.
With just days between now and the event, which takes place at the Kasaya Center in Miami, Paul has reportedly drafted in trainer Don Charles, who masterminded Dubois’ destructive victory last year.
Former cruiserweight world champion turned pundit, Johnny Nelson, told The Sun that Charles is being paid ‘healthily’ for the help.
“Don Charles is getting paid healthy … I’m quite sure he’s got an NDA attached to him, so he can’t say much, which you can’t knock. You can’t blame him.
“You know this guy’s still elevating himself to a level now, especially after what he did with Daniel Dubois, elevating himself to a level where the biggest name currently on the circuit, Jake Paul, is hiring him. So he’s he’s a hired gun.”
Paul, who has worked with many former champions in camp previously, is not the only one who has switched up his team. ‘AJ’ has recently left Ben Davison to join Oleksandr Usyk’s gym
