What you need to know about the press conference for the Jake Paul vs Anthony Joshua fight.
Anthony Joshua is set to receive a substantial, career-high purse of £70million for taking on the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Despite the enormous payday, the former two-time world heavyweight champion has faced widespread criticism for choosing to accept this controversial match.
The bout, which takes place in Miami on December 19, will be a professional fight, scheduled for eight rounds. Matchroom CEO Frank Smith emphatically denied any suggestions that the fight would be an exhibition or “fixed,” confirming AJ is going in for a knockout.
Joshua made a strong declaration about his approach to the fight, dismissing the idea of a points victory. When asked, he stated simply, “I need to knock him out,” and even promised more aggressively to “break his face.”
Jake Paul expressed immense self-belief and a willingness to face extreme adversity against the elite heavyweight. He boldly claimed he is “seriously ready to die” in the ring as he pursues this unique personal challenge.
Paul was quick to offer a definitive prediction for the outcome of the contest, reflecting his extreme confidence. He declared that he foresees a victory by knockout for himself sometime within the fourth or fifth round of the eight-round bout.
Joshua officially confirmed he is making another change to his training team for this upcoming fight. He revealed that he has been training with Team Usyk and will have a coach from Oleksandr Usyk’s camp in his corner on fight night.
When addressing his critics, Joshua maintained a focused and dismissive stance, stating he is not concerned with those who doubt him. He emphasised his hunger, devotion, and dedication, seeking to be uplifted rather than pulled down by negative opinions.
Paul suggested that his own motivation is rooted in proving himself against high-level adversity after achieving success elsewhere in his life. He highlighted that he accepted the fight to see if he could handle Joshua’s power and continue to rise after being challenged.
