Jamie Vardy's Display in Bologna vs Cremonese Sparks Big Reaction

Cremonese supporters have made their minds up about Jamie Vardy after his display during his new club’s 3-1 away win over Bologna sparked a major reaction. The 38-year-old former England international ended a 13-year spell at Leicester City over the summer, leaving behind a legacy that makes him one of the most loyal players in Premier League history.

Accepting that he is no longer at his scintillating best as a pressing, fox-in-the-box striker, the Sheffield native chose to take on a new challenge away from the rough-and-tumble of the Premier League. Having spent most of his career in a team built to play on the break and soak up pressure, his move to newly promoted Serie A side Cremonese now seems like exactly what he needed to keep the good times rolling.

Vardy thrives as the underdog – the box-crasher in a team capable of pouncing at any moment to produce a surprise result. Bologna currently sit inside the European qualification spots, just four points off the summit of Italian football. A home match against an 11th-placed side may have looked routine, but Vardy ensured that expectation carried little weight.

Following a run of three straight defeats, Cremonese found inspiration through Vardy to manoeuvre a comfortable victory at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. Playing the full ninety minutes, he scored twice from two shots on target, successfully completed his one dribble attempt, and also won four duels, made four clearances, and completed his one tackle attempt when tracking back. At his very best, it’s hard to describe Vardy as anything other than lightning in a bottle. Time and again, he needs only the slightest invitation to burst into life and change a game.

For a team expected to be battling in the lower reaches of the table, his impact has been transformative; with four league goals in nine matches, he has catapulted Cremonese into a realm of optimism that once must have felt unattainable.

Admitting that they were “skeptical” of Vardy ahead of his move to Italy at first, one Cremonese supporter revealed that he is “winning me over for who you are” more and more. As it goes, that was just the start of an outpouring of love, and the forward has opened himself up to widespread praise following his latest performance. See Cremonese’s post following him winning the Man of the Match award below:

“Much admiration for this gentleman here. Immortal player,” another Instagram user wrote, as a third added: “I just can’t believe I’m in love with a man at 52.” Elsewhere, a fourth concluded: “Jamie, you are a f****** legend!”

Speaking to reporters after the match, Vardy – who turns 39 next month – quipped that if there had been rain in Bologna, it would have felt like a typical midweek match in England, given how grey and foggy the conditions were. As per Football Italia, he went on to praise the club’s determination to keep pushing forward, with their commitment making his transition from Leicester to Lombardy feel seamless.
