January Can’t Come Soon Enough For Savinho
Pep Guardiola’s lack of faith in one of his Manchester City players is understandable after his display in a 0-0 draw away to Sunderland. The Cityzens were handed a setback in the title race and are now four points behind leaders Arsenal.
City knocked at the door on many occasions but couldn’t find a way past a resilient Black Cats defence and Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs. They were particularly dominant in the last 20 minutes, desperately trying to find a winner which wouldn’t come.
Guardiola also watched his men waste opportunities and will be frustrated having guided his side to six on the bounce before tonight. He might be relieved that the January transfer window has opened so he can replace one of his stuttering stars.
Savinho Struggles in Man City’s 0-0 Draw vs Sunderland
Guardiola handed Savinho just his fifth league start this season at the Stadium of Light, and the Brazilian attacker was given the chance to impress at the start of the new year. But he didn’t take his opportunity, putting in a disappointing display that raised concerns about his end product.
The 21-year-old missed two big chances, and while his pace caused issues when City were on the attack, his decision-making left much to be admired. His future has been the subject of speculation since Tottenham Hotspur‘s interest last summer.
Guardiola might be prepared to offload him now that the transfer window is open because the Sky Blues are set to land Antoine Semenyo. Sky Sports claim that the Manchester giants have approached Bournemouth over triggering the Ghanaian’s £65 million release clause.
Semenyo has been one of the most prolific forwards in the league this season and could be a massive upgrade. In games like the one against Sunderland tonight, he could have very well been a difference maker.
‘Useless’ Savinho ‘Rattles’ Man City Fans
The expected arrival of Semenyo has City fans ready for the club to part ways with Savinho. This was evidenced by their reactions to his display on X tonight.
One City fan made clear they want Semenyo to replace Savinho:
“Had enough of Savinho. Take the money and play Semenyo. Couldn’t finish his tea!!”
Another is open to his sale:
“Would never be against selling Savinho in the summer. The sight of him rattles me man.”
One supporter ripped into the former Girona winger:
“Savinho is utterly utterly USELESS.”
Another added:
“Savinho needs to be shipped out immediately.”
One doesn’t want City to wait to offload him:
“Sell savinho NOW.”
Another gave a grim verdict:
“Savinho the worst footballer ever.”
As the winter window progresses, the future of Savinho might just be worth keeping an eye on, especially with Semenyo set to join City. It was claimed in the summer that the Manchester outfit were blocking Spurs from signing the Brazilian.
That might not be the case this time around if the Lilywhites return for him or if other clubs come into the equation. He has failed to secure a starting berth in Guardiola’s team since returning in the summer of 2024.
