Jeff Mayweather responds to reports that Floyd may end retirement to rematch Pacquiao

Jeff Mayweather has issued his honest verdict on whether Floyd Mayweather, his nephew, would benefit from entering a loosely reported rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

Rumours of a second encounter between the two pound-for-pound legends resurfaced towards the end of 2025, with ‘Pac Man’ expressing his interest in a potential shot at revenge.

Their first fight, which took place in 2015, saw Mayweather claim a unanimous decision victory in what is still the top money-generating boxing match of all time.

But despite its considerable financial value, their 12-round welterweight contest ultimately lacked the fireworks that may have been delivered if they had collided at an earlier stage.

As a result, there has been very little demand, if any, for a second meeting between the two Hall of Famers, with many accepting the convincing nature of Mayweather’s win as a definitive end to their rivalry.

Pacquiao, however, seemingly remains determined to exact his revenge, believing that a draw with WBC world champion Mario Barrios in July has afforded him a new lease of life.

Mayweather, meanwhile, has also been linked to a possible exhibition match with Mike Tyson, who has not entered the ring since trudging through eight rounds against Jake Paul in 2024.

But while the prospect of a bout between Mayweather and Tyson, exhibition or otherwise, has certainly received its fair share of backlash, the former’s uncle nonetheless sees it as a more viable option than the Pacquiao rematch.

In an interview with The Mayweather Channel, Jeff made no attempt to hide his true feelings towards the two potential matchups.

“What’s he going to fight him [Pacquiao] for? It don’t mean nothing. [Tyson] would be the better option.

“That way, they’re [both] making money and, really, it’s just entertainment.”

Indeed, Mayweather and Tyson would likely make an obscene amount of money, but whether their potential exhibition classifies as ‘entertainment’ is perhaps up for debate.
