Joshua Kimmich Calls PSG ‘Toughest Opponent’ Despite Facing Arsenal & Chelsea
The 2025/26 season so far has been one of great entertainment, and it’s Arsenal who have been the top team both in England and Europe as they lead the Premier League and Champions League tables heading into December.
The Gunners claimed a 3-1 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, becoming the only team to maintain their 100% record in the competition, while they also sit six points clear of closest challengers Chelsea in the top flight too.
But while they earned a relatively comfortable win at the Emirates against the Bundesliga champions, Germany star Joshua Kimmich has admitted that he’s not convinced they are the best team around right now.
Kimmich: PSG Better Than Arsenal
Bayern Munich were one of just three unbeaten teams in the Champions League this season before their trip to north London, having previously beaten Paris Saint-Germain, Club Brugge, Pafos and Chelsea.
Despite beating all those teams and losing to Arsenal, when asked by TNT Sports for his opinion on which team has been the most difficult to play against, Kimmich was adamant that the current reigning European champions PSG were still the best, because Arsenal rely too much on long balls.
“I think PSG was our toughest opponent, especially the way they play football. Arsenal is completely different. They rely on set pieces. They love to play the long balls.
“Against PSG, it’s more a football game. Today, it was not so much about football. It was about game management.”
Kimmich is Wrong, Arsenal Are The Best Right Now
While there is no doubting that PSG are an exceptional outfit, and that Chelsea are becoming a force in Europe after their Club World Cup victory and then win over Barcelona in midweek.
But the statistics prove that he is wrong, and that while Arsenal may have employed a specific strategy to defeat Bayern Munich, they don’t play that way all the time. In fact, according to Sofascore, Bayern Munich have played the most accurate long balls per match in the Champions League this season, while they have also had more corners this season than the Gunners.
It screams of Kimmich being salty following defeat. Arsenal have proven they are able to hang with all the top teams in world football now, and it’s not crazy at all to suggest that at this moment in time, they’re right at the top of the list.
