Kevin Nash Reacts to Claims Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels Were 'Lovers'

Kevin Nash has addressed the claims of Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart that Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels were lovers during the late 1990s. Hart made the accusation during a recent appearance on the Johnny Pro Show while discussing the atmosphere in the WWE locker room during the final months of his full-time career with the company.

Bret and Shawn were fierce rivals both in and out of the ring, with Michaels’ hatred of the Canadian running so deep that he refused to lose to Hart on a number of occasions, famously doing so while he was the WWE Champion.

The ultimate decision on who won and lost matches (and championships) lay with the now-disgraced WWE boss McMahon and Hart suggested that there was more to the relationship between Shawn and Vince than many knew.

“I think there’s more going on here between these two guys,” claimed Bret. Honestly… I think that Shawn and Vince were sleeping with each other. I’m being dead honest. I think I’m very close to the truth here. Shawn and Vince were lovers… I got caught between two lovers, and I got shafted and screwed over, and Shawn was so envious and jealous of my position that he finally had to sleep with Vince to get it.”

Former Head of Talent Relations, Jim Ross, has already commented on the shocking claims, but few knew Michaels better than his best friend, Kevin Nash, who spent years travelling with his pal at the same time that Hart alleges the affair was taking place.

During an appearance on his Kliq This podcast, Nash, who was known as Diesel in the WWE in the mid 1990s, was asked about Hart’s claim. The Hall of Famer was emphatic in his response.

“I have no idea. I spent the better part of three years of my life with Shawn Michaels, and I never remember having a double knockout with Vince during any of our travels.

“Not only would we have known, but there is just no way he couldn’t have told anybody. There is no proof. That’s when one of those things where you tell a story and say, ‘I’m sure.’ No, you’re not. I think it’s in poor taste.”

Nash’s views were backed up by Jim Ross, who accused Hart of making the remarks in order to stir up some controversy.

“That’s great. That’s hilarious. Bret knows how to push the buttons, man. That’s all he’s doing. It’s all he’s doing. And it’s working because we’re talking about it among others.”

The real-life tension between Hart and Michaels resulted in the infamous ‘Montreal Screwjob’, where Vince and Shawn conspired to change the result of Bret’s final match in WWE before leaving for rival promotion World Championship Wrestling in November 1997.

The pair would eventually settle their differences and shake hands more than a decade later. However, it’s clear that Hart still harbours a lot of animosity towards both Michaels and McMahon, regardless of whether there is any basis to his claim that the pair were lovers.
