Keyshawn Davis delivers intriguing verdict on Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson
Teofimo Lopez and Shakur Stevenson are set to collide in a fascinating fight in New York at the end of the month. Now, former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis, who fights on the undercard, has offered his verdict on the main event.
A three-division world champion, Stevenson has ruled at featherweight, super-featherweight and lightweight and now steps up to the super-lightweight scene to take on the standout fighter and champion of the division in Lopez.
Yet, whilst respected for his willingness to take on all comers, Stevenson recently named Davis as one fighter that he would not want to take on, due to their friendship.
However, when quizzed on how Stevenson will fare against Lopez, Davis appeared to insinuate that he fears his friend may come up short, telling Ring Magazine that he expects Lopez to ‘impose his will’ onto the WBC lightweight champion as the fight progresses.
“I see it starting off slow and then I see as Shakur wins the first round, as Shakur wins the second round, slowly I think that Teofimo is going to start picking it up and start imposing his will and it’s just going to go from there. That is how I think it is going to go … One thing I can say, though, Teo can fight.”
On that same card, Davis is tasked with Jamaine Ortiz for his first fight at super-lightweight since being stripped of the lightweight world title for missing weight. Still, it is being suggested that Davis will move up again during the aftermath, with a move to the welterweight scene already being touted.
