LeBron James continues to defy Father Time, etching his name further into NBA history by becoming the oldest player ever to record a triple-double.
The Los Angeles Lakers star achieved the remarkable feat at 41 years and 44 days old during his team’s dominant 124-104 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Thursday night.
Deep into his 23rd professional season, James showcased his enduring brilliance, tallying 28 points, 12 assists, and securing his 10th rebound with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
The Crypto.com Arena crowd rose in a standing ovation as he checked out moments later, celebrating his 123rd career triple-double, placing him fifth on the all-time list.
This extraordinary achievement saw James surpass a record held for 22 years by fellow Lakers legend Karl Malone, who was 40 years and 127 days old when he recorded his final triple-double.
Reflecting on the milestone, James expressed a deeper appreciation for such moments at this stage of his illustrious career.
“I guess I’m more appreciative of moments like this in my career, understanding where I’m at, at the later stage of my journey,” James said. “You definitely take it in a little bit more.”
While individual statistics and longevity records are not his primary focus, James acknowledges the significance of a triple-double as a testament to his consistently high level of play.
Despite missing 18 games this season due to injury, James emphatically proved that he remains a major force for the Lakers, who were without their star Luka Doncic due to a hamstring strain.
“I think what it represents is pretty cool — the fact that you can go out and have an impact in three facets of the game,” James explained.
“Rebounding. The assists, obviously, are what I love the most. Being able to get my guys involved, throughout my career I’ve always loved that more than anything.
“And being able to put the ball in the basket, that’s part of this game as well. So I think what it means, to be able to have your hand in three facets of the game, making an impact in those three, that’s pretty cool.”
James’s performance has remained largely outstanding when fit this season, averaging 21.8 points, 6.9 assists, and 5.7 rebounds coming into the game.
The Lakers remain firmly in the Western Conference playoff hunt, despite only playing ten games with James, Doncic, and Austin Reaves all healthy simultaneously.
His last triple-double before this one had been some time ago, but James was aggressive and active from the outset against Dallas, returning from his own injury absence.
After an energetic pre-game warm-up, he exploded for 14 points and six assists in the first quarter alone, contributing to the Lakers’ first 23 points. By halftime, he had 18 points, eight assists, and four rebounds.
He secured double-digit assists in the third quarter, but it was in the fourth that he finally grabbed the crucial three rebounds needed to complete the triple-double.
He nearly achieved it earlier, but teammate Austin Reaves beat him to a board, much to the amusement and vocal disapproval of the rest of the Lakers bench.
“Everybody on the team yelled at me,” Reaves recounted. “I don’t catch myself looking at the stats during the game, so we went to the bench and everybody let me know about it. He didn’t, but everybody (else), and I looked at him and said, ‘Shoot, my fault.’”
After missing out last year due to injury, James is set to return for the All-Star Game this Sunday at Intuit Dome.
While he is ineligible for his 22nd All-NBA team selection this season due to missed games, including the first 14 while dealing with sciatica, his overall career tally stands at 152 triple-doubles when including playoff performances.

Tottenham Hotspur plan to name an interim manager for the remainder of the season, before making a long-term appointment in the summer.
Thomas Frank was sacked earlier this week, with Spurs five points above the relegation places.
Sources have told BBC Sport that Spurs are confident of finalising a deal for an interim manager before the players return to training on Monday.
Spurs’ exit in the FA Cup third round mean they have a nine-day break before the north London derby against rivals Arsenal on 22 February.
With no fixture this weekend, the first team squad were given time off and asked to return on Monday.
The club are aware that mid-season options are limited and that there is likely to be greater availability for potential managers at the end of the campaign.
Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis has been in the spotlight as he is set to become a free agent this offseason. Willis served as the backup to Jordan Love for the past two seasons, but appears to be linked to several teams after a few impressive cameos in the 2025 season.
On Thursday, former NFL QB Chris Simms appeared on the “Dan Patrick Show,” and showered praise on Willis.
Thanks for the submission!
“I think Malik Willis is a superstar,” Simms said. “I would think he is the crowning gem of guys that’s going to be out there as far as free agents you can get.”
•
Patrick then asked Simms if the Pittsburgh Steelers, valued at $6.5 billion by Forbes, could be interested in signing Willis.

“If I were them, I’d be looking at that,” Simms said. “Malik Willis has proven he’s got special talent. He’s got a special arm, special mobility. He knows how to run the offense and do all of that. So yeah, he’s a great story here.”
Simms was then asked if he liked Willis more than Love.
“It’s closer than I ever thought it would be,” Simms said. “And I’m really a Jordan Love fan … but Malik Willis, I’m not going to say he’s better than Jordan Love right now. I will say he shows more potential to be a greater player than Jordan Love. That’s what I would say right now, but I’ve got to see a little more before I say he’s better than Jordan Love.”
Willis was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2022 draft. He was traded to the Packers in August 2024.
The 2025 season was the final year for Willis on his rookie contract that he signed with the Titans.

Earlier this week, reports claimed that the Cleveland Browns were interested in signing Malik Willis during the offseason. However, Browns insider Tony Grossi shut down any talk of the QB’s rumored move to Cleveland, while suggesting the team has a big cap space issue with Deshaun Watson.
“Anybody who connects Malik Willis to the Browns is ignorant of their Deshaun Watson cap situation. Ain’t happenin,’” Grossi tweeted on Tuesday.
Willis did well when he led the Packers’ offense in 2025. He completed 85.7% of his passes for 422 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions, while having a 145.5 passer rating. The QB also had 22 carries for 123 yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Apart from the Browns, the Miami Dolphins reportedly have an interest in signing Willis.

Rio Ferdinand has delivered a response to Roy Keane after the former Manchester United midfielder said he wishes his ex-teammate would go “quiet”.
Earlier this week, Ferdinand appeared to hit out for a second time at the stance held by Keane – and other United fans – that Michael Carrick should not be handed the permanent job at Old Trafford this summer.
Keane said last month that there are “bigger and better” candidates to take the gig at the end of the season. He doesn’t believe that, despite Carrick’s impressive start to life back at United, that he should get the role on a full-time basis. Carrick has won four and drawn one of his opening five games since returning to the Reds.
Ferdinand, meanwhile, has been one of Carrick’s most outspoken supporters among his former United teammates. Speaking on his podcast on Monday, Ferdinand said Carrick should get the role if he guides the club back into the Champions League. He had earlier thought the disrespect shown to Carrick was “unbelievable”.

He then decided to hit out at Keane, who has been against the idea of Carrick getting the job full-time, saying: “I don’t understand that with Roy, I’ve got to be honest. I don’t know how you can be so against it.”
But on the latest episode of The Overlap podcast, Keane fired back at Ferdinand.
Host Gary Neville first mentioned Ferdinand’s name when discussing “talking” on the pitch.
Neville said: “I know I’ve just said that talking is a bit of an irrelevance on the football pitch, but if it is quiet… Rio to be fair was one of them where you don’t go quiet, because if you got quiet as a defender…”
Keane, in typical fashion, then chimed: “I wish he would go quiet now.”
It prompted laughter from The Overlap studio, with Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott and Ian Wright hysterical.
Now, Ferdinand has since responded to Keane’s comment after a clip of the remark went viral. In a post on X, Ferdinand quoted the video and put three laughing face emojis and tagged Neville.
Ferdinand and Keane were teammates at United for three-and-a-half years. The duo won two major trophies together; the Premier League in 2002/03 and the FA Cup in 2003/04.
United are next in action when they travel to Everton on Monday, February 23. They don’t have a fixture this weekend due to losing against Brighton in the FA Cup third round last month.

It wouldn’t be a Winter Olympics without some curling drama.
This time, it’s over crowd noise.
Switzerland’s Yannick Schwaller and World Curling are at the forefront after the Swiss skip posted to his Instagram account immediately after beating Czechia 7-3 on Friday at Milano Cortina 2026.
“@worldcurling please stop (discouraging) the crowd from (being) loud, let them go nuts! It is what curling needs,” Schwaller wrote in the caption of his Instagram. “Awesome atmosphere by the Italians.”
In a comment on Schwaller’s post, Great Britain lead Hammy McMillan Jr. wrote “why was there quiet please being projected onto the big screens(?)”
Sportsnet reached out to World Curling for comment.
“We have no issue with the noise and have asked the Sports Production team not to put it (a message on the screen) up again,” World Curling wrote.
World Curling also replied directly in Schwaller’s comment section, saying the Sports Production team put up signs on the big screen after receiving a complaint about the noise.
Curling Canada was in the building for Brad Jacobs’ big win over the U.S. Thursday morning and noticed how loud the Italians were while supporting their home country against Great Britain. The Italians won 9-7.
Oleksandr Usyk’s next move remains uncertain.
The unified heavyweight world champion is expected to return to action this summer, but he continues to be linked with a host of potential opponents and one former heavyweight ruler has revealed that the Ukrainian has personally assured him their long-awaited fight will happen.
Usyk had been linked to a showdown with Deontay Wilder at the beginning of the year, but prolonged negotiations led to Wilder instead opting to take on Derek Chisora, for what will be both men’s 50th professional contest.
Additionally, Usyk has been mentioned for a meeting with former unified world champion Andy Ruiz Jr, as well as a shock bout against Dutch kickboxer, Rico Verhoeven.
This week, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced that Usyk has requested a voluntary defence of his titles, but that he must then take on WBC Interim champion Agit Kabayel in the fight that follows to avoid being stripped.
However, when speaking with Gunman Boxing, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ revealed that the Ukrainian has given him ‘his word’ that victory over ‘Del Boy’ will tee up a shot at his titles.
“I believe so [that Usyk will come next], I’m going to keep Usyk for his word. I believe that he is a man of his word and I understand that [fighting me] is what he wants to do.
“He don’t need me because he has done great things throughout [his career], but he does need me if he wants that end of an era legacy [fight].”
It appears unlikely that Usyk will remain on the sidelines until a potential showdown with the American later this year, with Verhoeven now emerging as the surprise frontrunner to face the unified champion next.
The first Group 1 of the Melbourne Autumn Carnival in 2026 will feature eight starters in the Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington.
Strikingly, for a race open to all ages and sexes, the three-year-old fillies boast the highest representation.
Three such fillies are entered out of eight for the 1000m test, pursuing a third win in the event over the past 25 years.
Regimental Gal provided the fillies’ success in 2004, with Coolangatta achieving it most recently in 2023.
Six-year-old mare Benedetta joins them, positioning the females to potentially raise their count to four in the Black Caviar Lightning after victories by Coolangatta, Imperatriz and Skybird in the previous three runnings.
My Gladiola and Military Tycoon, both Melbourne-trained fillies, will accompany Michael Freedman’s Marhoona, who has been quartered at Flemington for slightly over one week in readiness for the Group 1 dash on Saturday.
Marhoona exhibited top-class form at two when chasing Tempted home in the Reisling Slipper at Randwick, then annexing the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) next at Rosehill.
In spring, she competed just twice: victorious on debut in the Heritage Stakes at Rosehill, then third in the Roman Consul Stakes at the same track.
Freedman indicated Golden Slipper winners face difficulties returning at three, but Marhoona is primed for autumn action, evidenced by her trial win against Autumn Glow at Randwick on January 27.
“I think she has come back great,” Freedman said.
“Slipper-winning fillies aren’t easy to place, especially the ones that are more sprinting types.
She is already a Group 1 winner so we want to try to line her up in races that can only potentially enhance her page, so we had a chat about it and thought we’d have a crack at the Lightning.”
No worries for Freedman regarding Marhoona’s straight course novelty, as stablemate Pallaton won there on Melbourne Cup Day.
The filly gets a new jockey in Michael Dee.
“We had Craig Williams booked, but he is suspended on Saturday, so we had to make a bit of a late change,” Freedman said.

Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman said he was “very, very happy” after scoring and providing an assist in Atletico Madrid’s 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.
Lookman praised his team’s performance and said the players worked well together. “Of course, scoring is good, but I think the team played really well tonight,” he said after the match.
The Nigerian forward also highlighted Atletico’s teamwork in front of goal. “In the box we were very professional, and today we showed a great level of teamwork,” he added.
Lookman said the fans played a big role in the victory. “We got that energy from our fans tonight, they were amazing, so we are glad,” he said.
The forward explained that he is always looking to score and help the team. “You always want to score as an attacker, always looking to get into dangerous positions, so I just try to be in the right place at the right time,” he said.
Despite the big win, Lookman warned that the tie is not finished. “Of course, it’s a big victory. But we have a few more games coming up before we play away, so we need to stay with the same mindset and focus on those matches,” he said.
Atletico now have a strong advantage going into the second leg, while Barcelona will need a big comeback to stay in the competition.
Australia suffered one of the most shocking defeats in their second Group A clash of the 2026 T20 World Cup against Zimbabwe in Colombo on February 13. After a comfortable win over Ireland in their tournament opener, the Men in Yellow looked off-color from the get-go against a spirited Zimbabwean unit.
On a two-paced wicket, the Aussies conceded 169 to Zimbabwe in 20 overs, picking up only two wickets. In response, they suffered an embarrassing collapse in the power play to be relegated to 29/4 in the fifth over.
Despite a brief recovery, thanks to Matt Renshaw’s brilliant 65, Australia lost wickets throughout their innings. They were eventually bowled out for 146 in the last over, resulting in a 23-run defeat.
It was Australia’s second defeat in as many T20 World Cup matches against Zimbabwe, following their stunning five-wicket loss in 2007.
Fans on X reacted to Australia’s loss to the lower-ranked Zimbabwe as follows:
Fans continued reacting to Australia’s stunning loss to Zimbabwe, with one saying:
“Australia deserve to lose for not taking T20 World Cup seriously.”
“Australia’s overconfidence has been broken,” a fan posted.
“The second time they have beaten Australia in T20Is. This was a pathetic performance by Australia. I haven’t been convinced by their squad since the start. I don’t like their approach towards the World Cup at all. One of the weakest Australian units I have seen,” said a fan.
Australian skipper Travis Head remained upbeat despite the side’s stunning defeat to Zimbabwe, pointing to the 2023 ODI World Cup as an example of their ability to bounce back. The Men in Yellow lost their opening two matches of that tournament but bounced back to clinch the title by defeating India in the final.
“We’ve been here before. We said at the toss a little bit about 23 and having injuries and working through navigating through tournament play, which is typical. And we’re seeing a lot of tight games. And yeah, we’ve found ourselves in this position before. We had a few guys in that dressing room who were here in India in 23 that navigated through that, and we ended up on the right side of it. So, we’ll go back to the blueprint of that,” said Head at the post-match presentation (via Cricbuzz).
The loss leaves Australia in a precarious position in Group B, with the side having to win its last two group stage games to have a chance of advancing to the Super Eights. They will take on co-hosts Sri Lanka in their next outing at Pallekele on Monday, February 16.
