Leeds United are now in pole position to sign another attacking talent after their deal to sign Facundo Buonanotte, according to recent reports.

Leeds sign Buonanotte

Making up for lost time, Daniel Farke is finally set to get his man. It baffled almost everyone when Buonanotte headed to Chelsea on loan in the summer. It seemed like another needless signing at Stamford Bridge and that quickly proved to be the case when the attacking midfielder struggled for game time.

It reached a point in which Buonanotte arguably needed Leeds to make a return for his signature more than they needed him. Alas, all parties will be hoping to put a tough West London spell behind them and watch the Argentine become a key player at Elland Road for the rest of the campaign.

Despite the reports, Farke chose to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about the midfielder in his latest press conference, saying: “We are looking at the possibility if there is a possibility to strengthen our squad in January but on this level you just can’t speak about things until everything is official and signed.

“So in terms of incomings and outgoings I can’t confirm anything. Apart from the loan of Harry Gray, there is nothing to speak about.”

It’s unlikely to be the last time that the German is asked about potential incomings this month. Further reports are now claiming that Leeds have already turned their focus towards another attacking star.

Leeds in pole position to sign Ruben Vargas

As reported by ABC Sevilla and relayed by Sport Witness, Leeds are now in pole position to sign Ruben Vargas. Both the Yorkshire club and Sunderland are most interested in the winger, who may have to wait until the summer to complete a move after suffering an ill-timed injury recently.

The interest from Leeds comes as a surprise. The Swiss attacker hasn’t exactly enjoyed the best of seasons – scoring three goals and creating another four in 14 games – but could yet be on his way to the Premier League.

For those at Elland Road, their interest may well come as a result of his cheap price-tag. Sevilla are reportedly asking for just €10m (£9m) to sell the 27-year-old in 2026, which is certainly not out of reach for the 49ers.

Leeds must also fend off interest from Sunderland if they are to push on and sign Vargas either this month or in the summer. Both sides are currently on course for Premier League survival and that will only make the race to sign the Sevilla man even more frantic in the coming months.
