Liverpool Eyeing Crystal Palace Star Maxence Lacroix Alongside Marc Guehi
Liverpool have discussed the prospect of signing Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix, as they look to strengthen their centre-back options, according to journalist Lewis Steele.
Whether it be in the January transfer window or next summer, Liverpool are likely to be in the market for a new centre-back for a host of reasons. Ibrahima Konate is set to be out of contract in 2026, while he’s also dropped off this season, so the Reds might be forced to find a replacement.
Joe Gomez has also endured injury troubles over the last few years, while Giovanni Leoni is currently on the treatment table after suffering a serious knee injury. Virgil van Dijk is also reaching the latter stages of his career, so there’s an argument to suggest that the centre-back position should be a major priority to strengthen in 2026.
Liverpool Eyeing Defensive Reinforcements
According to journalist Steele, writing for the Daily Mail, Liverpool have discussed the prospect of signing Crystal Palace defender Lacroix in the past. The Reds are also interested in signing Marc Guehi, who was close to making the move to Anfield in the summer transfer window.
Guehi has been the major topic when it comes to a defensive signing for Liverpool, and it’s no surprise considering the performances he’s produced for Palace. His team-mate, Lacroix, who has been described as ‘outstanding’ by Oliver Glasner, also deserves plenty of credit for Palace’s strong defensive displays, and it’s no surprise that he’s also caught the eye of Liverpool as a possible centre-back addition.
With Guehi out of contract and likely to depart, it might cost Liverpool a significant amount to try and prise Lacroix away from Selhurst Park.

Paul Joyce reports that Liverpool are unlikely to try and hijack Manchester City’s move to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo.
Guehi Should be Liverpool’s Priority
If it’s a choice between Guehi and Lacroix, regardless of transfer fee, then it’s the former who should be the priority target. Guehi is the main man in the Palace defence, and he’s shown with England that he can consistently perform at a high level.
Taking into account that Guehi is going to be available on a free transfer next summer, the England international is undoubtedly the better value for money signing, but the issue is that they could face competition for his signature.
With Guehi out of contract, he’s able to speak to clubs around Europe about signing a pre-contract agreement, so Liverpool will be hoping he opts to remain patient and sign for them next summer.
