Liverpool Make First Move to Sign Real Madrid Star Arda Guler
Liverpool are considering a surprise swoop for Real Madrid star attacker Arda Guler, according to reports in Spain.
The reigning Premier League champions have reportedly made an initial move to try and sign the Turkey international, who has several suitors in the Premier League ahead of the market reopening next month.
Liverpool are seen as strong contenders in the race as they look to revitalise their creativity in the final third and see Guler as someone who could provide a spark for Arne Slot’s side.
The Reds have endured a difficult first part of the season under the Dutchman, winning just two of their last 10 Premier League games, although Mohamed Salah will return to the squad for Saturday’s clash with Brighton after being left out against Inter Milan in midweek.
Liverpool Eyeing Arda Guler
According to a report from Spain, while Liverpool are continuing to monitor Guler as a potential option for the future, a move is likely to depend on Real’s stance.
The Spanish capital side are in a strong negotiating position for Guler, whose contract expires in June 2029, and remain intent that the 20-year-old stays at the club.
Guler has been a key player under Xabi Alonso this season, making 22 appearances across all competitions, 18 of which were starts, and registering eight goal involvements.
The 20-year-old, praised as being a ‘mix of Ozil and Guti’ by Xabi Alonso, joined Real from Turkish side Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023, but largely struggled for regular minutes in his first two seasons.
He made just 18 league starts under former Real boss Carlo Ancelotti, who vacated the position at the end of the season to take charge of the Brazil national team.
Guler’s situation at Real could change amid growing pressure on Alonso, with the Spanish tactician facing the axe after winning just two of the last eight games across all competitions.
Liverpool Eyeing Antoine Semenyo
Liverpool are anticipating a busy turn of the year in terms of transfer activity as they could look to bolster Slot’s squad further with the signing of Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have already held initial talks regarding a move for the Ghana international, who has an active release clause worth £65m.
Semenyo has been in electric form at the Vitality Stadium this term, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 14 league appearances under Andoni Iraola.
