The future of Mohamed Salah remains a hot topic ahead of the January transfer window

Mohamed Salah has again been backed in his feud with Jamie Carragher, with Emmanuel Adebayor this time slamming the pundit. While the Liverpool star is currently on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Egypt – with his country through to the knockout stages – his clash with the former Reds defender earlier this month continues to dominate headlines.

Carragher scorched the 33-year-old for his comments after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds, where Salah claimed the club were “throwing him under the bus”. The Sky Sports pundit labelled Salah‘s post-game rant as a “disgrace” and accused the Egyptian of engineering a plot to result in the sacking of Arne Slot.

While there’s seemingly water under the bridge between Salah and Slot, that hasn’t stopped reports of the forward potentially ending his Liverpool career in the January transfer window. Mirror Football takes a look at Salah’s latest defender in his feud with Carragher and the supposed recent remarks from his agent on a possible winter exit.

Adebayor backs Salah

Carragher didn’t let up in his scorching of Salah’s antics after the draw against Leeds with his monologue condemning the Reds legend on Monday Night Football lasting eight minutes. He said: “I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game.

“Some people have painted it as an emotional outburst, I do not think it was. Whenever Salah stops in the mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed between him and his agent to cause maximum damage and to strengthen his own position.”

While the rivalry between Salah and Carragher has died down since, Adebayor made sure to throw jab or two in Carragher’s direction. The former Arsenal and Manchester City striker called the pundit’s comments “disrespectful” and took aim at Carragher’s career, including his trophy cabinet.

“You know, some players were lucky enough to be born in certain areas,” Adebayor said. “Carragher, I think, was lucky enough to be born in Liverpool – that’s why he can proclaim, ‘I won something.’ Mo Salah won the league, Mo Salah won the Champions League with them.

“Mo Salah’s been the top scorer for them for I don’t know how many years. I think he’s even entering [the discussion about] the best ever player to play in the Premier League. That is huge. And for Carragher to come in and disrespect that person on air, that for me is just incredible.”

Salah transfer dismissed

When the topic of Salah’s future comes up, that’s usually when fans start hearing about activities of his long-time agent Ramy Abbas. While nothing concrete has emerged about a possible exit from Liverpool, Turkish media have reported that he has categorically dismissed a move to Fenerbahce.

Reports state that officials from the Super Lig giants met with Abbas earlier this week, with conversations taking place over a potential move to Turkey amid Salah’s growing frustration at his role in Merseyside.

However, any possibility of a move coming to fruition was disregarded by Abbas, who reportedly told Fenerbahce representatives that should Salah leave Liverpool, he’ll only go to Saudi Arabia.
