The latest Liverpool news as Mo Salah is targeted by a Saudi Pro League chief while the Reds are said to be planning further transfers
Mohamed Salah could play his last match for Liverpool this afternoon against Brighton if Arne Slot reintroduces the winger to the squad. However, the Egyptian may continue to be punished for his outburst last weekend and be left out for the second successive match – and the final one before he heads to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Salah was remained at home for the club’s Champions League win over Inter Milan on Tuesday and held crunch talks with Slot on Friday.
This follows Salah hitting out at his recent time spent on the bench with the star having not started since the Reds’ 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in late November.
The winger claimed that he’d been “thrown under the bus” and said his relationship with Slot had broken down. Salah is due to meet up with his international team-mates on December 15.
Ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Brighton on Saturday, Slot has suggested that he wanted Salah back in the fray. Mirror Football brings you all the latest headlines coming out of Anfield.

Saudi boss slams Salah
While Liverpool reportedly want to keep Salah, rumours of interest from Saudi Arabia refuse to quell. However, one team that the Liverpool star can rule out is Al-Kholood after the club’s owner engaged in an astonishing rant with the Premier League-winning forward in his sights.
American Ben Harburg slammed Salah as “not a great team player” at the World Football Summit in Riyadh. He said: “He’s 33 years old, he got paid a boatload a year or so ago, whatever it was, and has underperformed massively since then.
“He doesn’t strike me as a great team player. As an owner, when I look at the way he behaved there…if a player isn’t performing, they’re not going to be in the starting lineup.
“We don’t put people in the starting line up based on what they did three seasons ago or even last season. All that, to me, combines for a fairly toxic combination of factors.
“So I would rather he not come here. I’m sure some people like his star power, he’s from the region, but my sentiment is that he is not a fit for our league. I would rather, if it were between him and Vinicius Jr., I’d take Vinicius.”
Three forwards on Liverpool’s radar
Liverpool are said to be in the hunt for three wingers as the January transfer window fast approaches. While the Reds have been linked with a plethora of players, having yet to replace Luis Diaz who left for Bayern Munich in the summer and with Salah’s future currently uncertain, three names have been put forward.
According to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon and Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise are all under consideration by Liverpool.
Wyness, who operated as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Semenyo’s definitely one of three that I think they’re going to be looking at. Now, one that people have forgotten is there was a lot of gossip about Anthony Gordon.
“And he’s one that I think could have had some inside track on that as well. Also, Olise is another one that I put into the top three there and potential replacements. I think Semenyo has got the talent and is there.
“But the Anthony Gordon one, there was no smoke without fire. And I think he would like to come back into Anfield at that stage, at least come back to Merseyside as an ex-blue.
“I don’t know how well he’d be welcomed. There aren’t many that go across the park, but I think Gordon’s expressed his desire to go there. And I think Semenyo is also a favourite, but it’s between those two, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gordon coming on the rails, coming from behind.”
Semenyo is thought to have a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract. French star Olise meanwhile is said to have been watched by the Reds in recent times.
Gordon, however, could prove tricky with the ex-Everton star still a key member of Eddie Howe’s squad. It’s also likely the Magpies would also demand a hefty fee for the Liverpudlian winger after the Reds were reportedly interested last summer for around £80m.
