Liverpool now expected to try and hijack Man City’s move for Semenyo
Liverpool are now expected to step up their move for a “world-class” star, with manager Arne Slot a big fan.
Reds keen on signing new forward
The Reds won their fourth game on the spin in all competitions on Saturday afternoon, but they made hard work of it, holding on for a 2-1 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who remain bottom of the Premier League table, having collected just two points all season.
Ultimately, the three points are the most important thing, but Slot may be a little concerned by the performance, with Federico Chiesa struggling, receiving a SofaScore match rating of just 6.1, and being replaced by Conor Bradley just after the hour mark.
It was a rare start for Chiesa, who has predominantly featured as a substitute so far this season, with the Italian getting the nod on the right-wing, while Florian Wirtz impressed on the opposite side.
Wirtz bagged his first goal since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, and Slot will be hoping the German can now kick on, after a slow start to life at Anfield.
Although the 22-year-old put in a solid display on the left, he usually features in an attacking midfield role, which means there may be space to bring in another left-winger next month, and there has now been a twist in Liverpool’s pursuit of AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, which states Bournemouth are now expecting Liverpool to step up their move for the winger, who has a £65m release clause, which becomes active when the transfer window opens.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Manchester City have also expressed an interest in the forward, and it was looking like a move to the Etihad Stadium was the most likely scenario, with advanced talks being held.
However, there could be a dramatic late twist, with the Reds keen to strengthen in attack, amid speculation surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future at Anfield.
Semenyo could be “world-class” addition to Slot’s squad
Bournemouth teammate Justin Kluivert waxed lyrical about the Ghanaian earlier this season, saying: “He is just world-class. We are glad to have him and that is why I said we have a good team. He is the one that scores goals for us and we appreciate that. He’s doing an amazing job.”
Kluivert isn’t alone in his admiration either, with Slot making it clear he is a big fan of the 25-year-old, hailing him as a “great player” earlier this season, while also praising the Bournemouth star for his pace and mental strength.
Slot’s own Rice: Liverpool have submitted an offer for £61m “monster”
Liverpool have reportedly made an offer to sign a £61m star who could be their own version of Declan Rice.
The 32-time Ghana international has certainly earned a move to a top club with his performances this season, netting nine goals in 17 Premier League outings, while also providing three assists.
With Salah’s future up in the air, Liverpool could certainly do with bringing in another forward, and it would be a real statement if they were able to beat City to Semenyo’s signature.
