Tottenham Hotspur‘s move to sign Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson is now off, after the Reds pulled the plug on a move, according to Paul Joyce.

Robertson is set to be out of contract in the summer, meaning the Reds have a decision to make on his future. With no new deal seemingly on the table, Liverpool can either cash in now and receive a fee for him, or lose him for nothing later in the year.

Robertson has predominantly played second fiddle to Milos Kerkez this season after the Hungarian left-back arrived through the door from Bournemouth in the summer. With Tottenham in the market for a left-back following an injury to Ben Davies, the north London club decided to make their move for Robertson, but it’s all gone wrong.

Liverpool Stop Robertson Completing Move

According to The Times reporter Paul Joyce, Liverpool have now pulled the plug on Tottenham’s move for Robertson. The Scottish international now looks set to stay at Anfield after Liverpool told Spurs that they wouldn’t be able to consider his departure as things stand due to the current options they have in his position.

Tottenham were believed to be willing to pay a fee in the region of £5m, but a deal for them to secure his signature is now off. The Merseyside outfit were hoping to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, but it’s claimed that the Serie A outfit were reluctant to cut his temporary move short.

During Liverpool’s defeat against Bournemouth at the weekend in the Premier League, Joe Gomez was substituted due to injury, which might have forced their hand in terms of an exit for Robertson, losing another defensive option.

Robertson Might Not be Happy

If Robertson is going to continue playing a backup role to Kerkez in Arne Slot’s team, then he might not be best pleased that a deal has fallen through. Thankfully for him, his contract is up in the summer, meaning he will be able to move freely.

Slot has preferred Kerkez on the left-hand side of defence, and it’s hardly a surprise if they knew Robertson was going to be leaving at the end of the season. Whether an exit takes place later in the January transfer window remains to be seen, but for now, Liverpool have halted his move to Spurs.
