Liverpool reach full agreement to sign young Senegal defender Mor Ndiaye
Liverpool have agreed a deal for a second defensive addition of the January transfer window, having already secured the signing of Ifeanyi Ndukwe from Austria Wien.
Liverpool prepare for Arsenal amid injury crisis
Hugo Ekitike is a major doubt for Thursday’s big Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool as injury problems continue to mount for the Reds.
The French forward missed the 2-2 draw against Fulham at the weekend because of a minor hamstring problem and has not yet returned to training.
Manager Arne Slot said: “He has not trained with us until now and let’s see if he can today (Wednesday).
“I have said two or three days ago that he is not going to be out for long but, because games come so fast, he’s in between training with the team or it could take him one or two days extra.”
Liverpool launch £40m+ offer to sign Barcelona wonderkid dubbed ‘the next Yamal’
He was the star of the show in Barcelona’s latest victory.
With Alexander Isak injured and Mohamed Salah still at the Africa Cup of Nations, Ekitike’s absence would be a huge blow to Liverpool’s hopes of a positive result, and there also concerns after Ibrahima Konate was not spotted with the squad pre-match.
Giovanni Leoni is already injured and Joe Gomez has suffered his fair share of fitness issues, so it is no surprise to see the club planning for the future with the signing of Ndukwe last week, a 17 year-old Austrian defender.
Liverpool agree deal for Mor Ndiaye
And with one already wrapped up, FSG have secured another young talent for the Reds’ academy ranks, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Thursday lunchtime that 18 year-old Mor Ndiaye will be the next youngster through the door.
“Liverpool reach verbal agreement to sign left-sided CB Mor Ndiaye. “Senegal defender has played at the recent U17 World Cup in Qatar.
“Deal follows the signing of Ifeane Ndukwe from Austria Wien sealed last week. Here we go.”
Ndiaye will join Rob Page’s Under-21 set-up, having thrived for Senegalese second-tier side Amitie FC, which is owned by the former Premier League striker Demba Ba.
The defender impressed scouts at the recent U17 World Cup in Qatar, starting four games before Senegal were eliminated in the round of 32.
Virgil van Dijk is now 34 years of age and the hope may well be that the left-footed Ndiaye eventually takes over that role in Liverpool’s senior side.
