Liverpool Scouts Watch Yan Diomande and Said El Mala as Double Deal Mooted
Liverpool scouts have been watching RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande and Koln forward Said El Mala ahead of a potentially stunning £130m double deal, according to the Daily Mail.
The Reds have had a mixed campaign so far under Arne Slot after winning the Premier League last season, with a poor run of form bringing their title defence to a premature end, barring a miracle, and leaving the manager under major pressure.
Injuries have been a big issue this season for the club, while the future of Mohamed Salah is up in the air following the Egyptian’s major outburst prior to his departure for AFCON, and it now seems as though the club are preparing to refresh the attack further.
Liverpool Scouts Watch Diomande and El Mala
Salah’s current contract at Anfield is set to expire in 2027, while there are doubts about Federico Chiesa’s long-term future on Merseyside after it emerged that Slot doesn’t trust him.
That has seen the recruitment department begin to take a look at potential replacements, and Bundesliga duo Yan Diomande and Said El Mala have both now emerged as potential targets, with the scouts at the club having watched both players in person recently.
Diomande, who has been described as ‘sensational’, has emerged as one of the hottest prospects on the continent after his performances for Leipzig this season, which has seen an £86m price tag put on his head ahead of a potential summer transfer.
Another player who has emerged as a target for several top clubs this year is El Mala, also described as ‘sensational’, with a belief that Koln would be open to selling him for around £44m, amid interest from clubs like Manchester United.
A double deal would therefore stand at around £130m at those prices, and would add to a star-studded attack that already includes £125m man Alexander Isak, £116m man Florian Wirtz and £70m star Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool Need Improvements
It’s fair to say that Liverpool had a crazy transfer window in the summer as they broke the British transfer window twice and spent a record-breaking amount, but it’s also more than fair to suggest that they still need more.
The squad has been battered by injuries this season, however, it’s also been evident that they are light in attack and the squad is relatively low on numbers. Whether they need to splash out on mega-money signings is a different matter, but young forwards coming in to replace ageing stars such as Salah, or underperforming stars like Cody Gakpo would make a lot of sense.
January moves are highly unlikely, especially for Diomande, but Liverpool are always attentive to an opportunity and if the chance arrives, they could well make their play this month.
