Luke Littler admits first purchase he wants to make with £500,000 World Championship winnings

Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler has revealed plans to splash out on a Mercedes A-Class with his £500,000 World Championship winnings when he turns 18 later this month.

The 17-year-old champion, who stunned the sporting world with his 7-3 victory over Michael van Gerwen at Alexandra Palace, has set his sights on the luxury vehicle as his first major purchase.

Despite his meteoric rise to fame and newfound wealth, Littler hasn’t yet taken driving lessons due to his hectic schedule, but he’s determined to get behind the wheel before entering his twenties.

“I’ve always loved a Mercedes A-Class – just a small car,” the young champion revealed.

Littler’s automotive ambitions have evolved alongside his sporting success. “Last year I was looking at driving and I loved the Ford Focus, but now I’ve gone up in the world just a little!”

His choice stands in stark contrast to other young sports stars, with Britain’s No.1 tennis player Jack Draper opting for a more modest second-hand Polo.

With his substantial prize money from the Alexandra Palace triumph, Littler now has the means to choose any model from the showroom, though he is set to lose nearly half of his £500,000 winnings without seeing a penny.

“I haven’t had driving lessons yet because it’s been so hectic, but I’m going to have to do it before I get into my twenties when it’ll be too late and I can’t be bothered,” Littler explained.

The new darts champion has had little time for driving practice, having been occupied with breakfast TV appearances and responding to congratulatory messages from celebrities including David Beckham.

Despite his busy schedule following the historic Alexandra Palace victory, Littler remains determined to get his licence before he feels it’s “too late.”

The teenage sensation plans to make the car purchase a personal milestone.

“If I get a car, it won’t be a birthday present from anyone. I think it would have to be a birthday present from me to me,” he said.

The self-gifted Mercedes would mark a remarkable achievement following his stunning victory at Alexandra Palace, where he hit 56 per cent of his doubles.

“This is why we play the game – for the titles. Obviously the money is there, but one thing I do enjoy when I do lift the trophy is when all the confetti comes down and the sparkles go up,” Littler added.
