Luke Littler Gifts Part of His World Darts Championship Prize Money to Angry Ginge

Luke Littler successfully defended his World Darts Championship title at Alexandra Palace on the 3rd of January, delivering a dominant 7–1 victory over Gian van Veen. With the win, the 18-year-old made history by becoming the first darts player to claim £1 million in prize money.

Littler was in imperious form throughout the final, posting a stunning three-dart average of 106.02, the sixth-highest ever recorded in a PDC World Darts Championship final.

Littler made a shaky start to the final, however, dropping the opening set to his 23-year-old opponent. That proved to be the only blemish in an otherwise flawless display, though, as the teenager went on to dominate the remainder of the match and become just the fourth player in history to lift the Sid Waddell Trophy in back-to-back years.

Littler celebrated his triumph with a Twitch stream, during which he surprised Morgan Burtwistle, better known as Angry Ginge, with a generous gift.

During the stream, Littler reflected on his victory and offered insight into how he plans to spend the “life-changing” prize money.

“I’m into football cards at the minute, so I might have to treat myself to a few boxes,” the youngster said. “Just a few. Panini cards, Topps cards, anything. It’s Angry Ginge’s fault, really, he got me into Whatnot.”

He further continued: “You bid, and they will open a box, and then they say you get a Cristiano Ronaldo card. I will treat myself to that.”

Littler went on to gift Ginge 100 Twitch subscriptions, much to the streamer’s delight, prompting him to burst into the dart player’s iconic walk-on anthem “Greenlight” by Pitbull.

Gifted subscriptions on Twitch allow viewers to purchase one, three, six, or 12 months of subscription for other users, with recipients also having the option to upgrade their gifted sub to a regular subscription. Purchasing 100 gifted Tier 1 subscriptions costs $499 (£368), while 100 Tier 2 gifted subscriptions cost $999 (£738), according to Filmora. Tier 3 subscriptions are capped at 40 gifted subs at a time, with that bundle priced at $999.60 (£739).

Ginge took part in the most recent series of ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ last year and was ultimately crowned the winner after outlasting the rest of the contestants. Littler was later asked whether he would consider following in his friend’s footsteps by entering the reality show himself.

“No, I actually wouldn’t. No,” the youngster said, as per The Mail. “I’d said I would for the right money, but I’ve been watching it now, and no, I just couldn’t. No way… Me watching it, I don’t think I could actually do it. No. Especially the first two trials, especially what (rapper) Aitch had to do. I said to my girlfriend Faith [Millar], ‘No, I’m not doing it ever. No way. There’s no way.’”

Beyond his World Darts Championship success, Luke Littler has claimed multiple PDC titles, reached several televised finals, and set numerous age-related records across the tour. He has produced some of the highest averages in major tournaments, defeated established champions consistently, and firmly established himself as one of the most dominant young players the sport has ever seen.
