Luke Littler issues ominous warning to Luke Humphries and co after qualifying for new tournament

Luke Littler isn’t planning to rest on his laurels in 2025 and is planning to win even more titles this year than he did during his spectacular debut campaign.

The 17-year-old ended last season with a bang by clinching a historic World Darts Championship title with a one-sided win over Michael van Gerwen in the final.

That victory helped propel Littler up to second in the Order of Merit with only Luke Humphries ahead of him.

It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for the teenager, who already has 11 PDC titles to his name after his World Championship victory.

He also came close to becoming the first darts player in PDC history to hit five nine-darters in a single calendar year.

By rising to second in the world rankings, Littler looks set to compete in the World Cup of Darts this year for England alongside Humphries.

But, for all he managed to achieve last year, Littler has set his sights on reaching the summit of the sport by moving ahead of Humphries in the rankings to take the No 1 spot along with multiple more trophies.

“I would have loved to hit a nine-darter in the World Championships and obviously try and end 2024 with five nine-darters, but it wouldn’t be, so obviously that’s another record that I can try and break for years and years,” Littler said.

“When you’re playing so good, you can feel the nine coming.

“I am now just going to recharge the batteries and chill but people are going to see that I’m going to be hungry for more titles this year and hopefully I can go one better and win 11 or even 12 onwards.

“Obviously if I can add some more money to the rankings, we all know how much Humphries is defending, it is a hell of a lot of money.

“But another thing, I can’t wait to play in the World Cup with him. Maybe at the end of 2025, I can see myself number one.”

Littler will be back in the Premier League this year to defend his title after his incredible win over Humphries last year.

Stephen Bunting, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price and Chris Dobey were selected as the four wildcard picks to go with Littler, Humphries, Rob Cross and Michael van Gerwen who qualified due to their Order of Merit ranking.

Littler has his sights set on returning to The 02 for the play-offs where he’ll once again fancy his chances of going all the way.

“Yeah, if I can go back to back, it’d mean the world,” Littler said.

“Leading up to it (in 2024), I thought if I could be in the top four, I’d be happy, but obviously, I finished first because of the way I played.

“But I will just have the same mindset going into it, if you make the play-offs, that’s all that matters and just give it your all at the O2.”
