‘Magnificent’ Man City Star Must Start For Thomas Tuchel At World Cup After What He Just Did
Phil Foden has surely earned his place in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for next summer after another stunning performance.
The Manchester City star fell out of England contention following a poor run of form for both club and country, leaving his hopes of featuring in the World Cup in tatters. However, this season, Foden has put himself firmly in the mix once again.
Heading into the clash with Fulham on Tuesday night, the 25-year-old scored six goals and provided three assists in 17 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side.
With just a number of months to go until next summer’s tournament, Foden is wasting no time in making a case for himself to be involved.
Foden Shines In Man City Rout
Fresh from a bright start to the Premier League season, Foden wasted no time in making an impression as Man City traveled to Craven Cottage on Tuesday.
Hailed as ‘magnificent’, the midfielder scored twice for City in a thrilling 5-4 win over Fulham as he put in another stunning performance. Goals aside, Foden was hugely influential throughout, completing 46 passes, creating two chances, winning five ground duels and scoring two goals from two shots throughout.
It was the sort of performance that proves that Foden is still one of the Premier League’s most elite stars and will certainly give Tuchel food for thought ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Foden Must Start Over Bellingham And Palmer
On his day, Phil Foden is one of world football’s best players. Admittedly, his performances for Man City have been hugely inconsistent during recent years, which has been frustrating. What’s even more frustrating is that when he lines up for England, the midfielder has failed to impress more often than not. That said, his quality is not something that the England boss can ignore.
Jude Bellingham is regarded as England’s star man, but recent performances and criticism of his conduct means that he is no longer the country’s talisman who must be played at all costs. Instead, Tuchel must name a team filled with players who can compliment each other. The same can be said for Cole Palmer and Marcus Rashford who struggle to perform for England on a regular basis.
Elliott Anderson could also be an absentee, with Foden slotting in alongside Declan Rice and Bellingham in a midfield trio.
In Foden, England have a player who is unlike anybody else in the talent pool. On his day, he’s a dead-cert to start for the Three Lions and with stunning form for club and country under his belt of late, it would be foolish not to have him involved.
Even more than that, an in-form Foden has to start if we’re to have any hope of winning the World Cup. To go all the way, you need players who can do something unique and the Man City star certainly falls into that category.
