Manchester City have “already submitted” an official bid to sign a £50,000-a-week target.
Man City submit official bid to sign £50k-p/w star
The Citizens have been down to their bare bones in recent weeks, with injury problems catching up to Pep Guardiola‘s side once again. Their backline has particularly been hit with an injury crisis, which has forced them to recall Max Alleyne back from his loan spell at Watford.
The young defender has been thrown straight into the starting side and did not look out of place as Man City secured a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.
Alleyne admitted that he didn’t expect to start in midweek and shared that it’s been a “crazy” couple of weeks: “I wasn’t fully expecting to start, so I really enjoyed that. The last week or so has been crazy, but I wouldn’t change it for anything and I enjoyed it, loved every second.
“(It was) my first one since I’ve been back, so really proud of the team. It wasn’t easy. You have to concentrate on the football and try to remove any other distractions from it. They’re such a tough, physical team, it’s such a loud place, so it’s a tough place to come.”
Up next is the small matter of the Manchester derby, where the youngster could once again get the chance to impress before the Citizens welcome a much-needed reinforcement in that area.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Man City have “already submitted” an offer to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace after submitting a contract offer to the England international.
Romano revealed on Friday morning that City had are “presented (an) important proposal” to the player and would now “advance” in club talks, but it wasn’t until a cheeky reply to a City fan that he confirmed the bid.
Guehi could transform Man City’s title hopes
The Citizens saved their season last January by signing a flurry of reinforcements. Now, a year later, they could do the exact same by welcoming Guehi after already adding Antoine Semenyo.
The Crystal Palace man, who could cost around £30m this month, would instantly earn a place in Guardiola’s starting side and ease the Spaniard’s recent defensive concerns.
The £50,000-a-week defender has a big decision to make on his future with so many clubs chasing his signature. He can either stay put at Crystal Palace until the end of his current deal and leave as a free agent, or take the chance to join Man City this month.
Given that Man City still find themselves in the title race and just six points behind Arsenal, the chance to secure silverware may just be too good to turn down.
After Guehi: Man City line-up move to sign another Semenyo for Pep
It would be another brilliant Semenyo-like signing for Manchester City.
Those in the Man City dressing room will be well aware of Guehi’s talents too. After partnering the Palace star at Euro 2024, John Stones told reporters: “For him to come in, not having felt the kind of feelings around tournament football before or these kind of games, all the different emotions that come with it that you’ve never experienced before, he has handled them so well in his performances.”
