Manchester United have reportedly launched an investigation to identify players leaking team news information, with new manager Ruben Amorim questioning both Amad Diallo and Alejandro Garnacho.

The inquiry comes after United’s starting XI for their dramatic victory over Manchester City was revealed the night before the match.

Amorim has since concluded that neither Diallo nor Garnacho are directly involved in the leaks, according to The Sun.

Garnacho’s brother Roberto had faced accusations on social media of being the source of team news leaks.

These accusations emerged particularly when Alejandro was left out of the team, with similar leaks occurring on previous occasions.

Roberto publicly denied being the mole last week.

Amorim expressed his frustration about the leaks following the Etihad victory, stating: “I know that story, I think it is impossible to fix, you have a lot of people in the club, the players talk with agents, it is not a good thing.”

Amorim has demonstrated a firm stance on player discipline, removing both Garnacho and Marcus Rashford from the squad for Sunday’s match for failing to live up to his high expectations.

The manager’s decisions also took into account off-field matters, including players’ dress code and interactions with team-mates.

Despite these actions, Amorim has concluded his investigation into the leaks, confirming his belief that neither Amad nor Garnacho were responsible for sharing team information.

While Garnacho watched from home, Amad emerged as United’s hero at the Etihad.

The young forward won a crucial penalty in the 88th minute before scoring the winning goal in the final moments of normal time.

Amorim urged caution regarding Amad’s development, saying: “He can play different positions, he is very humble. We have to be very careful with Amad because sometimes in our club we put young players in a special place. Let’s stay clam with Amad.”

Speaking after the match, Amorim expressed his delight with the victory whilst emphasising the need for continued improvement.

“It was incredible. I think we deserved it. We were in the game for 90 minutes and that is very good,” he told Match of the Day.

The United manager acknowledged the importance of the win for supporters, adding: “They need it. Just like us, but you can see the way they celebrate is special. But we need to continue.”

He stressed that despite the victory, the team still needs to “improve a lot of things.”

United are next in action against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.

They have won the competition twice since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with Jose Mourinho steering them to glory in 2017 before Erik ten Hag masterminded another triumph nearly two years ago.
