Man Utd Discuss Move to Sign Wilfried Ndidi From Besiktas
Manchester United have discussed making a January move to sign Besiktas midfielder Wilfried Ndidi, according to talkSPORT.
United are yet to act in the mid-season transfer window after sacking Ruben Amorim at the start of the month, with Michael Carrick in caretaker charge until the end of the campaign.
GIVEMESPORT senior reporter Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Red Devils chiefs are holding talks over whether they will make a signing this month to boost the squad, with midfield a potential priority.
United want to add two top midfielders to their squad in 2026, according to GIVEMESPORT sources, although with preferred targets like Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba unlikely to move until the summer, they could look for another option to take them through until then before the February 2 deadline.
Man United Assessing Midfield Options
January is never the easiest or best time to do business, and that is why United will be having discussions to see if there is an opportunity available to them this month.
Romano has previously reported that having Premier League experience is a preferred trait as the Red Devils hunt for their next midfielder stars, and Ndidi has been talked about, according to talkSPORT.
The former Leicester City star has made 220 appearances in the English top flight, before joining Besiktas during last summer’s transfer window.
He was a target for United and Ruben Amorim last summer before he made the move to Turkey, with Julius Aghahowa claiming ‘one of the best African midfielders’ in recent years had told him he wants to move to the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
United have also been offered the chance to sign former Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek from AC Milan, with the England international available this month.
Ndidi Keen on England Return Eventually
While the 29-year-old may be a potential target, it remains to be seen if he will be willing to join United in this transfer window.
The Nigerian is Besiktas’ captain after only moving to Turkey a few months ago, and is still making his mark for the Istanbul club.
Ndidi does have aspirations to return to play in England at some point due to footballing and family reasons, but this month may be too soon for that.
Who are Man United’s Other Midfield Targets?
The main names linked this month have been Al-Hilal’s Ruben Neves, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes and Everton’s James Garner, who all have the required Premier League experience.
Whether any of those deals would be financially viable this month remains to be seen, but United are open to making an addition if the opportunity and conditions are right.
One big boost for United if they don’t make a signing is the return of Kobbie Mainoo though, with the Old Trafford academy graduate outstanding in the weekend win against Manchester City having been cast aside by Amorim for much of the season.
United signing a midfielder will be one to watch until the deadline, when situations can change in the final days of the window.
