Man Utd Eyeing Ex-Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca as Ruben Amorim Replacement
Manchester United are interested in appointing former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca instead of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, according to journalist Christopher Michel.
Maresca, described as an ‘elite’ coach by EFL analyst EBL, left Chelsea earlier this month, and Amorim was sacked just a few days later. Both managers have been under intense scrutiny this season, which is part and parcel of being in charge of big clubs, with Chelsea and United sitting in fifth and sixth place, respectively.
Both clubs are now in the hunt for a new manager with nothing confirmed just yet. United have been through a host of different coaches since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, with varying results, but Amorim is certainly ranked as one of the worst when it comes to the number of games won and points picked up.
Man Utd in the Hunt for New Manager
According to journalist Michel, one of the possible options for Manchester United as they aim to replace Amorim is former Chelsea manager Maresca. The Italian coach is out of work after leaving Chelsea earlier this month, and it will be interesting to see whether he’s searching for a swift return to work.
Michel later responded to someone asking whether Crystal Palace manager Glasner, suggesting that he wouldn’t expect the Austrian coach to be appointed in the winter. As it stands, Darren Fletcher looks set to be in charge on an interim basis, but it’s unclear whether United will look to appoint a more experienced interim manager for the remainder of the season or bring in a permanent manager in the coming days or weeks.
Man Utd Need to Make Quick Decision
It’s unclear how well Fletcher is going to do in interim charge at United, but there’s no doubt he’s an incredibly inexperienced manager. The Red Devils can’t afford to throw away any more of the season, so bringing in a permanent manager as soon as possible should be a major priority in the coming days.
Despite their recent struggles, United are still a very attractive club for any potential manager, due to the size of the club, so they should have a large pool of managers willing to take over from Amorim, even in the middle of the season.
