Manchester United are eyeing a possible move to sign Rennes striker Mohamed Kader Meite, who has quickly become one of the most sought-after forwards in European football, according to CaughtOffside.

Signing a striker might not seem like an immediate priority for the Red Devils, especially with Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko not even starting their last couple of games, but bringing in young talent for the future is always a positive. United have focused a lot of their recruitment in recent years on bringing in young talent from around the world, but they might not benefit fully for a while.

There’s no doubt, if the Manchester club want to become regular top-four challengers once again, they might need to bring in reinforcements for the senior club. The uncertainty around who is going to be the permanent manager could be complicating matters, leading to high-potential targets being eyed instead for now.

According to a report from CaughtOffside, Manchester United are one of the sides who are interested in Rennes striker Meite, and they would be one of the teams leading the race if they step up their interest. The Red Devils are believed to be monitoring the youngster closely, increasing their focus on identifying young talent for their long-term future.

Meite is under contract until 2028, meaning Rennes won’t be forced to sell just yet, but with a host of Premier League clubs showing an interest, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see their stance tested in the near future.

Meite, described as an ‘elite talent’ by scout Jacek Kulig, despite his age, has already become a regular for Rennes this season. The 18-year-old has played 17 times in Ligue 1 this term, scoring three goals while providing a singular assist. His rapid rise has alerted a host of clubs, including almost half of the Premier League, so it could be a competitive race for his signature.

Man Utd Form Could Halt January Signings

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick celebrates after the match

The January transfer window is notoriously a difficult market to find good value in, so United might be looking to keep their powder dry until the summer. Their recent form under Michael Carrick, which has seen them beat both Arsenal and Manchester City, might convince United to avoid any January additions, waiting to go big in the summer window.

Carrick might be hoping for reinforcements over the next week or so, but he’s shown that he’s capable of working with the tools that he’s been given, and saving their cash for the summer might be a better move for the club.
