Manchester United slumped to a dismal 3-1 home defeat against Brighton on Sunday, with Andre Onana’s costly error compounding their misery at Old Trafford.

Brighton took an early lead through Yankuba Minteh before Bruno Fernandes equalised from the penalty spot.

Kaoru Mitoma restored the visitors’ advantage in the second half, before Onana’s howler gifted Georginio Rutter a third goal for the Seagulls.

The defeat leaves United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League with 26 points from 22 games.

Former Manchester United striker Dion Dublin, speaking on Radio 5 Live, condemned Onana’s mistake for Brighton’s third goal.

“An awful mistake from Andre Onana,” Dublin said. “He will not want to look at this.

The error came when Onana inexplicably spilled Yasin Ayari’s straightforward low cross directly into the path of Rutter, who took a touch before finding the empty net.

The blunder left teammates Diogo Dalot and Matthijs de Ligt falling to the ground in disbelief.

United showed little attacking threat throughout the match, with Fernandes’ penalty their only shot on target in 98 minutes of play.

Brighton did have a goal from Joao Pedro ruled out at 1-1 after VAR spotted a foul by Jan Paul van Hecke on Dalot in the build-up.

The visitors dominated proceedings, with their pacey forwards interchanging positions and creating numerous chances, while United’s attack remained blunt and predictable.

Joshua Zirkzee’s main contribution was winning the penalty, but United otherwise struggled to create meaningful opportunities.

United fans took to social media to express their fury at Onana’s performance, with many calling for his departure.

“SELL ONANA THE WORST GOALKEEPER IN MAN UNITED HISTORY,” one supporter tweeted.

Another fan branded him an “absolute clown” while calling for his exit from the club.

Former footballer Jan Aage Fjortoft offered a scathing assessment, stating: “What Onana just did is amateur-level—no disrespect to pub teams.”
