Man Utd Hold Talks Over Move to Sign Bournemouth Star Tyler Adams

Manchester United have identified the need to make additions to their midfield department in 2026, and there is a surprise new name under consideration.

The Red Devils splashed over £200m to strengthen the squad in the summer with the arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens, but Ruben Amorim‘s side have continued to struggle to control games.

A move for Brighton star Carlos Baleba was considered in the summer, but the club opted to wait until the new year, and have also been linked with Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson after their good form this season. However, there are now said to be new names being looked at.

There has been talk in recent weeks that Old Trafford chiefs are looking at a potential move for Wolves star Joao Gomes to strengthen the centre of the pitch, with the Brazilian potentially available as Wolves fight against relegation.

But according to the Daily Mail, Man Utd bosses have also held internal talks to discuss a potential move for Bournemouth star Tyler Adams.

The American midfielder, who previously played for Leeds United and been described as ‘incredible’, has fully recovered from back and hamstring injuries that saw him miss a large chunk of the last two seasons, and he has now become a key member of Andoni Iraola’s squad in a defensive role.

Now United are considering him as a potential option to bolster their own squad in 2026, although the interest hasn’t gone beyond initial internal talks yet.

Adams to Replace Mainoo?

Kobbie Mainoo

One of the reasons a new midfielder is such a pressing issue at Old Trafford this season is because of uncertainty around the future of Kobbie Mainoo.

The 20-year-old is one of just four senior players yet to start a Premier League game, alongside third-choice goalkeeper Tom Heaton, exiled left-back Tyrell Malacia and long-term injured defender Lisandro Martinez.

It has now emerged that Mainoo wants to leave the club in January on an initial loan deal to boost his chances of making Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, and GMS understands that Napoli and Bayern Munich are among the clubs looking at his situation.

United are said to be keen to wait until after AFCON before making a final decision on if he will be allowed to leave, but should the Carrington graduate depart then a replacement would undoubtedly be needed, and Adams could fit the bill as an energetic, combative midfielder that Amorim is keen to add.
