Man Utd Should Sign Crystal Palace Star After Antoine Semenyo Decision

The January transfer window gives Manchester United the chance to improve Ruben Amorim’s squad but their initial decision to make Antoine Semenyo their top target was the wrong one.

Semenyo is perhaps the Premier League‘s most in-demand player, and it’s not just United who were eyeing his signature – until dropping out of the race on Tuesday. GIVEMESPORT’s senior correspondent Ben Jacobs revealed that Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the Ghanaian attacker.

The 25-year-old has a £65million release clause which becomes active at the start of January and lasts for 10 days. That puts all those clubs under pressure to convince Semenyo to join them rather than their rivals.

United had appeared to be strong contenders for the Cherries’ star man until dropping out of the race as they were unwilling to break their wage structure to try and compete with their rivals for his signature, GIVEMESPORT understands. that may lead to United looking elsewhere for a frontman, but prioritising another forward player is the wrong move despite Amorim’s intention to use him in multiple positions. There has been little wrong with his side’s attack, but defensively, the Red Devils remain vulnerable, especially when Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are on the sidelines.

Man Utd Should Move For Marc Guehi

If INEOS are prepared to spend £65million on Semenyo, then it’s clear that they can splash the cash this January. Their recruitment staff should be putting another Premier League star at the top of their wishlist.

Marc Guehi‘s future remains uncertain after a deadline day move to Liverpool collapsed in September. The English defender remains at Selhurst Park and has been one of the top-flight’s standout centre-backs this season.

While Arne Slot’s Merseyside giants remain frontrunners for Guehi, there is an opportunity to swoop in and sign the 25-year-old in January. Palace are believed to be demanding £35million for the former Chelsea man ahead of his contract expiring next summer.

United could do with more experience at the back as Amorim has been relying on Leny Yoro, 20 and Ayden Heaven, 19. Guehi, who has been linked with the Manchester outfit, is also at the perfect age to step in as a long-term replacement for Maguire, who, at 32, isn’t getting any younger.

Guehi is already familiar with a back three, as Oliver Glasner’s preferred formation is 3-4-2-1, which will be a huge benefit for Amorim. But it’s also the Eagles’ skipper’s leadership that could help the club continue on their rebuild, and these are the types of individuals you need in such a situation.

There are some doubts over Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro’s futures, with the midfield pair possibly departing next summer. That’s a highly experienced duo whose importance extends beyond the pitch and into the dressing room.

Guehi has been at Palace since July 2021 and, in that time, has grown into one of the league’s most highly regarded defenders, playing a crucial part in last season’s FA Cup win. He was also one of England’s best performers at last year’s European Championships and looks to have cemented his place in Thomas Tuchel’s team for the World Cup. Three Lions team-mate Ezri Konsa declared last year that he had “all the attributes to be a world-class defender”.

Amorim would be able to field and stick with a very trustworthy defensive trio if United were to move for the Englishman. A back-three of Guehi, De Ligt and Luke Shaw could take his side back to top four contention.
