One Manchester United star is set to miss out on the summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada after deciding against switching his international allegiance
Manchester United youngster Ayden Heaven will NOT switch his international allegiance to play in next summer’s World Cup despite being eligible to play for Ghana.
The 19-year-old London-born defender qualifies to represent the Black Stars through a grandparent and the Ghanaian FA have been monitoring his development. Intriguingly, Ghana, along with Panama and Croatia, are in England’s World Cup group in the United States, meaning Heaven could theoretically play against England next summer.
However, BBC Sport say Heaven will not be taking to the field for the African nation and harbours ambitions of playing for the senior England team after representing them at under-18, 19, and 20 levels.
After joining United just under a year ago, Heaven secured his place in Ruben Amorim’s first team squad this season. The central defender has spent a great deal of time among United’s substitutes but has become a fixture of the starting XI in December.
Heaven put in an impressive performance for the Red Devils’ 1-0 win over Newcastle and has lofty ambitions in club football, as well as on the international stage. Speaking to Sky Sports as the man of the match winner, Heaven outlined his side’s intentions.

He said: “It was [big]- finally a clean sheet. We’ve been waiting for this for a couple of weeks. I’m just so happy. I’m so thankful for everyone who helped us [win].
“As Manchester United, we belong in Europe, and we want to get back there next season. We can push for the top four, possibly push for the league; anything is possible. We are just going to keep trying.
“The manager, we play loads of formations with him, whatever he does, we know it’s going to work, you saw today. I’m so proud of the team.”
Manager Amorim has been impressed with Heaven’s development. The youngster started the month being substituted at half-time against West Ham before putting together a strong run.
“I am really pleased with Ayden,” Amorim said. “You can feel that he is improving every game. He is young, but you can feel that he has a good game, slows the thinking and improves during the game.
“He trained really well and, if he continues to play like that, it is going to be really hard to take his place.”
