Manchester United parted company with Ruben Amorim on Monday after 14 months in charge, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer linked with a return to Old Trafford

Manchester United are set to decide on Ruben Amorim’s successor this week, according to reports. The Red Devils parted ways with Amorim on Monday, ending his 14-month tenure at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s final game in charge was Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United, marking the fourth time in their last five Premier League matches that United have failed to secure a win, and they’ve drawn their last two games.

This run of form has left United in sixth place in the Premier League table following the busy festive period, three points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool and just four points ahead of Crystal Palace, who sit in 14th place.

Darren Fletcher has been appointed as interim manager, taking the reins for United’s away match against Burnley on Wednesday night.

Rumours are swirling about a potential return to Old Trafford for former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who managed the club from 2018-21 and most recently held the reins at Besiktas, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Solskjaer, currently without a club after leaving the Turkish side in August last year, is once again being linked with a move back to United.

Norwegian news outlet VG ]have provided some insight into United’s plans to bring back Solskjaer, including when they anticipate making an announcement.

The report has suggested that United are in talks over a deal with Solskjaer, set to be finalised on Friday, though it remains uncertain whether this will be a long-term or short-term agreement.

It’s been reported that Solskjaer will be in Molde on Thursday for the funeral of Norwegian coaching legend Age Hareide, making it unlikely that any agreement will be reached before Friday.

Solskjaer took the reins at United in December 2018, stepping in to replace Jose Mourinho in the Old Trafford dugout. Initially appointed on an interim basis, he was later given the role permanently and guided the club to a second and third place finish in the Premier League, as well as one Europa League final.

Following their Premier League clash with Burnley on Thursday, United are set to welcome Brighton to Old Trafford on Sunday for the third round of the FA Cup.

It’s yet to be confirmed whether Solskjaer will be back in the dugout for the match, or if it’ll be Fletcher or another coach taking charge.
