Der Klassiker, the biggest game in German football, lived up to its reputation as a high-intensity affair. While Borussia Dortmund showed flashes of brilliance and defensive grit, Bayern Munich’s persistence eventually paid off, securing a 3-2 victory at the Signal Iduna Park. Two different Bayern sides appeared during the match, divided by the half-time whistle. From misplaced passes to mistimed tackles, Bayern were largely absent in the first 45 minutes, with even their talismanic striker, Harry Kane, appearing unusually frustrated. However, the second half demonstrated exactly why the Bavarians remain the record Bundesliga champions.

The match’s temperature rose early following a heavy challenge from Nico Schlotterbeck. The Dortmund defender was central to the game’s first major talking point; many argued his forceful foul on Josip Stanisic warranted a red card, but the referee opted for a yellow. Schlotterbeck capitalised on that reprieve moments later. Rising highest from a corner, the centre-back powered a header home to give Dortmund the lead. For Vincent Kompany’s side, it was a familiar frustration, marking the fifth time Bayern have conceded from a set-piece this season and highlighting a persistent vulnerability in an otherwise dominant campaign.

Throughout the first half, Dortmund’s disciplined defensive block forced Bayern into uncomfortable territory. The Bavarians were frequently restricted to long-range efforts, failing to find a way through the “Yellow Wall.” The game remained notably feisty, with a total of 25 fouls committed. Dortmund captain Emre Can was even forced into an early substitution after sustaining an injury, having been at the receiving end of several heavy challenges from Bayern players.

The second half saw Michael Olise spurn two “big chances” to level the scoring, lacking his usual clinical edge. In an attempt to kill the game, Dortmund turned to the bench, but it was Bayern who eventually found their rhythm. The equaliser arrived thanks to the industrious work of Serge Gnabry, who provided the spark for Harry Kane to clinically restore parity. From that point, the momentum swung firmly in Bayern’s favour.

Bayern took the lead in the 69th minute after being awarded a penalty when Schlotterbeck fouled Stanisic in the box. Kane stepped up to the spot under immense pressure. Although Gregor Kobel correctly guessed the direction and got a firm hand to the ball, the sheer power of the strike ensured it hit the back of the net to make it 2-1. However, the drama was far from over. Marcel Sabitzer haunted his former club by setting up Daniel Svensson for a late equaliser. The Swedish star made no mistake, slotting the ball past the young Bayern keeper, Jonas Urbig, to make it 2-2.

Just as the fans resigned themselves to a draw, Bayern’s captain for the day, Joshua Kimmich, produced a moment of magic. He stepped up to deliver a dramatic volley that left Kobel with no choice but to pick the ball out of the net. In an end-to-end battle between two of the world’s elite clubs, Bayern’s supremacy secured the bragging rights, moving them 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table.

No one has played PGA National better over the past five seasons than Shane Lowry, with the Irishman’s Saturday 63 putting him at 57 under cumulatively in that span.

But yet, Lowry hasn’t won a PGA Tour event since 2024 and hasn’t won an individual PGA Tour event since 2019, when he broke through at the Open Championship for his marquee victory.

“It’s not necessarily easy to lead around this golf course. There’s a lot of very difficult shots,” Lowry said as he shares the 54-hole lead at the Cognizant. “But yeah, I’m up there where I want to be. I’ve had a few chances to win this tournament, and hopefully I can convert it tomorrow.”

He’ll start the day tied with journeyman pro Austin Smotherman and the two will be in Sunday’s final group at 1:45 p.m. ET.

Regis Prograis attempted to negotiate a different weight, and even considered demanding a rehydration clause, but has ultimately agreed to face Conor Benn at 150lbs.

It was announced earlier this week that the pair will square off on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Arslanbek Makhmudov, with Benn returning to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, on April 11.

His last outing at the venue saw him claim a unanimous decision victory over Chris Eubank Jr in November, after losing their first encounter by the same verdict in April.

For both middleweight contests, Benn had benefitted from 10lb rehydration clause on Eubank to keep below 170lbs on the morning of each fight.

But this, it seems, was never an option for two-time world champion Prograis, who claims he attempted to lower the agreed weight for his clash with Benn.

With the American being a career super-lightweight, he had initially hoped to face the Ilford man at 147lbs, but swiftly discovered that this was not going to wash with his opponent’s team.

Speaking with Ring Magazine, the 37-year-old revealed his original plan while, at the same time, insisting that he is unbothered by Benn’s natural size advantage.

“I was a champion, twice, at 140[lbs]. So, for me, this is a big jump, but I feel like I’ll be comfortable.

“I’m not really worried about Conor Benn, and how big he is. I agreed to it [150lbs]. At first, we tried to get the weight down a little bit. They [said] no.

“Cool, no push back – you get everything. I didn’t push back about the weight; I didn’t push back about the weigh-in clause.

“We could’ve [done] that, too. I know he did the same thing with Eubank – he made him do a rehydration clause. I’m not doing none of that stuff.”

This will be Benn’s first outing since signing a one-fight deal with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing, who have reportedly secured him an eight-figure purse for fighting Prograis.

After defeating Eubank, the 29-year-old claimed he would go straight back down to 147lbs, but now seems to be taking a more steady approach to dropping the weight.

The Los Angeles Lakers look to snap a three-game losing streak when they take on the Golden State Warriors in a key NBA Pacific Division matchup on Saturday. Los Angeles is coming off a 113-110 loss at Phoenix on Thursday, while Golden State defeated Memphis 133-112 on Wednesday. One of the most physically gifted quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft class, Arkansas product Taylen Green enjoyed a combine showing for the ages Saturday afternoon inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis with a record-setting performance.

Green followed up his record-breaking 43.5-inch vertical with another chart-topper for his position, posting an 11-foot, two-inch leap in the broad jump. Anthony Richardson, the No. 4 pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2023, held the previous highs for quarterbacks with a 40-inch vertical and a 10-foot, 9-inch broad jump.

Green’s official 4.36 time in the 40-yard dash is the second-fastest time ever by a quarterback, trailing only Michael Vick’s 4.33 in 2001. Considered a mid to late-round pick prior to the combine, the long-strider is rated as the 11th-best quarterback available per CBS Sports’ individual player rankings, ahead of dual-threat passers like Vanderbilt’s Diego Pavia and Georgia Tech’s Haynes King.

At 6-foot-6 and 227 pounds, Green’s size is similar to former No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence, but with a considerable edge in athleticism. One of the lone playmakers for the Razorbacks last season, Green threw for 2,714 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also picking up 777 yards rushing and eight scores on the ground.

Inconsistencies as a passer have primarily marred the development of Green, who played three seasons at Boise State before spending his final two years in the SEC at Arkansas. Green’s penchant for explosive plays fueled his highlight reel for the Razorbacks under offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, who made the most of his abilities outside of the pocket.

Green’s top performances included a six-touchdown game against Mississippi State in 2024 and five touchdowns last season during a 45-42 loss to Texas A&M, a College Football Playoff participant.

The current NFL comparison is clear, according to Kentucky defensive coordinator Jay Bateman, who led the Texas A&M’s defense last season and previously assisted with Florida’s defense during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

“Kid is a stud. I was impressed with how he developed as a passer this year,” Bateman told CBS Sports on Saturday. “Reminds me a lot of Anthony Richardson.”

Green has flashed elite arm strength at times and often made plays off script against SEC defenses, but mechanical worries as a passer and a bevy of head-scratching decisions — 20 total interceptions the last two seasons — leave his draft stock a bit of an unknown. 

Green told NFL Media that teams have not asked him to work out at other positions, like wide receiver. And if they did, he would decline. 

“He’s going to be a project at the next level because he’s got to get all the parts working together, but he has a chance to be a special talent. He’s going to be a Day 3 guy,” CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson said before the combine.

Roy Jones Jr has issued his verdict on the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.

It was officially announced last week that the pair will square off on September 19, over a decade removed from their first encounter, headlining a Netflix event at the Sphere, Las Vegas.

Since claiming a unanimous decision victory over his rival, Mayweather has had just two professional outings – against Andre Berto and Conor McGregor – while also being involved in a series of exhibition matches.

The 49-year-old is also slated to have an exhibition with Mike Tyson, which has been reported to take place on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Pacquiao’s more recent activity could give him a slight edge, given that his last professional outing saw him box to a draw against Mario Barrios, the then-WBC welterweight champion, in July.

But while the 47-year-old Filipino was in action last year, it must be said that both pound-for-pound legends are a far cry from their best.

This view is shared by Jones, another pound-for-pound icon, who told DAZN that the rematch, much like their first fight, is well past its sell-by date.

“For those guys to make the money they’re going to make, [it’s] good for them – I like it for that purpose.

“[But], for me, I’m not excited because I wanted to see the fight five years before it happened. So it happened too late for me, the first time. This time, it’s definitely too late.

“But I’m not going to hate on them. If they’re going to make money doing it, more power to them.”

Most would agree that Mayweather and Pacquiao’s showdown in 2015 came far too late, which must speak volumes about where both men are currently at in their careers.

UFC returns to Mexico for the first time since March 29, 2025, when UFC Fight Night comes to Mexico City on Saturday. In the main event, two-time former flyweight champion Brandon Moreno will take on late replacement Lone’er Kavanagh.

Kavanagh took the fight on three weeks’ notice after Asu Almabayev fell to injury, and will travel to enemy territory when he takes on the first Mexican fighter to hold a UFC championship. While it could be seen as a low-risk, high-reward situation for Kavanagh, he is coming off of his first loss, a second-round knockout against Charles Johnson this past August. A second consecutive loss would not leave Kavanagh in a good spot in the division.

Moreno is also coming off a stoppage loss, suffering a second-round TKO loss to Tatsuro Taira in December. That loss ran Moreno’s record to 2-3 in his five most recent fights, and 4-4 since the start of 2022.

Moreno first won the flyweight title at UFC 263, defeating Deiveson Figueiredo after the two battled to a draw in their first fight. Figueiredo won the third fight to regain the title and Moreno won the belt back from Figueiredo two fights later. At UFC 290, Moreno lost the belt again, this time to Alexandre Pantoja and Moreno has been trying to battle his way back to the top since.

Saturday’s main card is Mexico vs. the world, with each fight featuring one Mexican fighter. There are three fighters, excluding the main event, that fans should keep a close eye on. Knockout artists David Martinez and Imanol Rodriguez are sizable favorites. Martinez, who fights former title challenger Marlon “Chito” Vera, is already a top 10 bantamweight after two UFC fights. Rodriguez makes his UFC debut after a thrilling KO on “Contender Series.” Lastly, CBS Sports 2024 Fight of the Year recipient Daniel Zellhuber looks to turn the corner against exciting veteran King Green.

Mikel Arteta insists Eberechi Eze needs no extra encouragement as the former Crystal Palace playmaker finds his feet at Arsenal.

In November, Eze became the first player to score a Premier League hat-trick in a north London derby, and he was instrumental in the Gunners’ 4-1 dismantling of Tottenham last Sunday, scoring twice.

But the 27-year-old’s form in between those derbies has been inconsistent and Arteta admits he is still getting to know Eze on both an emotional and tactical level.

“Motivation has never been an issue,” boss Arteta said. “I believe that if you have to motivate a player then you have a big problem. Motivation is just talk, for someone to inspire you for a minute of an hour.

“I think the biggest motivation he has is the reason why he came to this club. He really feels attached and belonging here. The rest is moments that you have in your career. When you move to a different club, navigating that and making sure you do everything that you possibly can to make it work.”

Eze came under scrutiny after making a mistake in December’s 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa and he has made just two Premier League starts since they beat Wolves in the middle of that month.

His attacking form has historically improved late in the season, a trend Arteta is eager for Eze to replicate with the Gunners still chasing an historic quadruple.

Arteta revealed he has not entirely closed the door on Eze returning to the left wing at some point, saying: “He can do. Now he has got many more months and games and understanding of what the games require for him to make the difference. I hope that it’s the case and that he smashes it from here until the end of the season.”

The red-hot Viktor Gyokeres was responsible for Arsenal’s two other goals against Spurs, taking him up to 15 goals across all competitions following a slow start after joining from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Arteta was reminded that the Swede’s current tally is just one shy of Didier Drogba’s total in his first season at Stamford Bridge, with the Ivorian going on to make a habit of scoring against the Gunners in his time at Chelsea.

Asked if such comparisons were helpful, Arteta replied: “It’s always the case about who you compare with. I have a beautiful apartment, but this guy has the biggest mansion in the world. So my apartment is terrible.

“But I can be so proud that I worked so hard to get it and pay the debts of my apartment and refurbish it and have a beautiful kitchen. I go to his house and I get depressed. So it depends on the eyes that you look at it.

“So I think what (Viktor’s) doing is improvable, yes. But I think his contribution, I think it’s been important so far.”
