Title-chasing Arsenal just about managed to squeeze past rock-bottom Wolves at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening and Mikel Arteta has made an honest admission about his side
Mikel Arteta criticised Arsenal for their performance despite their dramatic victory against Wolves. The Gunners continued their title push with a late 2-1 victory, albeit that scoreline failed to tell the whole story.
Arsenal had taken the lead through a Sam Johnstone own-goal but struggled to really put Wolves to the sword. And that looked to be coming back to bite them as Tolu Arokodare levelled matters in stoppage time.
The North London side eventually claimed victory as Yerson Mosquera became the second Wolves player put through his own net. Speaking after his side’s dramatic win, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said: “It was a roller coaster.
“The longer the game went on, they had hope and we had to accelerate our game and take more risks. In the first half we created a lot of situations without any clear big chances. After scoring the goal we had a period of two minutes where we were deep and very passive and we conceded that goal and it was a very poor goal.

“We pushed and we found a way to score the goal with the connection between Gabi [Jesus] and Bukayo and delighted obviously because that was what we wanted.”
The Arsenal head coach added: “At the end, the final reaction. But we know that it wasn’t enough. We hadn’t conceded a single shot in the box the whole match and then their first action we looked so passive and it was not at the level required to win the game comfortably.”
Arsenal’s win against Wolves leaves them five points clear at the top of the Premier League, albeit with Manchester City yet to take on Crystal Palace this weekend. And while their title charge remains on track, Arteta was disappointed that his side’s margin of victory wasn’t bigger.

He said: “We did find a way and that’s a very positive thing, if not we’d be very frustrated and rightly so, but there are things to improve obviously and the match should have been bigger especially with what we produced in the game even though there are a lot of things to improve. But that’s it – win the game and go on.”
Arsenal will be aiming to stretch their advantage next weekend as they take on Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium ahead of a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Crystal Palace.
