Milan are continuing to explore options to reinforce their defence and are reportedly considering a swap deal involving Koni De Winter as they monitor Federico Gatti’s situation at Juventus.

According to Tuttosport, via ilBianconero, Massimiliano Allegri has been a long-time admirer of the centre-back and would like to add him to his Rossoneri squad.

Gatti has been sidelined since mid-November with a knee injury and is not expected back for at least another couple of weeks. While the setback has not ruled him out long term, it has inevitably slowed his momentum and impacted his place in the defensive hierarchy.

At present, Juventus are relying on Bremer and Lloyd Kelly as first-choice centre-backs, with alternatives such as Juan Cabal and Pierre Kalulu already available, while Daniele Rugani remains unavailable through injury.

Should Juventus return to a back three, even Teun Koopmeiners could be used as an emergency option.

Juventus squad depth pushes Gatti towards Milan

That depth risks pushing Gatti toward the fringes in the short term, a situation Milan are watching closely. The Rossoneri have long admired the Italian defender, who is rated highly by Massimiliano Allegri and seen as a natural fit in terms of mentality and physical profile.

Milan are understood to be willing to include De Winter in negotiations as part of a potential exchange, a formula that could appeal to Juventus if Gatti’s role becomes more marginal once he returns to full fitness.

For now, the idea remains in the background rather than an active negotiation. However, January often brings late opportunities shaped by form, fitness and squad hierarchies.

If Gatti struggles to regain a central role at Juventus, Milan are ready to revisit a track they have never fully abandoned, and what is currently a suggestion could yet evolve into a concrete move.
