Monaco Grand Prix: Lando Norris takes pole
Lando Norris will be on pole for Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix after setting a blistering lap.
Home-hero Charles Leclerc will line up second around the streets he grew up on. He topped every practice session before qualifying, the first time that has happened since Max Verstappen did it in Mexico 2023.
After his crash in Practice 3 Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton is under investigation for impeding Max Verstappen after some confusion between him and his Ferrari pit wall led to him to believe Verstappen was on a slow lap but he was not. Hamilton lines up fourth.
Championship leader Oscar Piastri hit the wall in Q1 and Q2 but was able to escape it without any damage, and will start the race from third.

The other Mercedes driver George Russell caused a red flag a few minutes into Q2 after hitting a bump and losing power from his power unit, leading him to come to a stop in the tunnel. The Mercedes cars will start 14th and 15th.
Yuki Tsunoda continued to struggle in his Red Bull as he dropped out in Q2 in 12th and Carlos Sainz couldn’t put his lap together in 11th.

Q3 was the only session without interruption, Verstappen made an error on his final flying lap and will line up fifth.
Both Racing Bulls put in a good performance as they will both start in the top 10 and Fernando Alonso has found some form to drag his Aston Martin up into the top half of the field.

The race tomorrow will be different than any previous year as there is a mandatory two-pit-stop rule to try to spice up the racing around the narrow and unforgiving walls of Monte Carlo.
The Monaco Grand Prix will take place on Sunday and is expected to start at 2pm BST.
