Newcastle Eyeing Move to Sign Nottingham Forest Star Morgan Gibbs-White
Newcastle are keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White amid his uncertain future at the City Ground, according to reports.
The England international could finally be on the move from the Tricky Trees in the summer after seeing his transfer to Tottenham fall through last year.
Although he later signed a new long-term contract with Forest until 2028, several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, could reportedly revisit his situation after the season, given the financial pressures surrounding the club.
Gibbs-White has been a standout performer for Sean Dyche’s side this season, registering six goals and three assists in 29 appearances in all competitions.
Newcastle Monitoring Morgan Gibbs-White
According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Newcastle are aware of Gibbs-White’s uncertain situation and could consider a move in the summer should the ‘sensational’ England international be allowed to depart.
The Magpies could face competition from long-term admirers Tottenham, who are poised to return for Gibbs-White even if Thomas Frank leaves the club.
The Danish tactician is under pressure following a difficult start to life in North London, winning just seven of 22 league games.
Forest have also endured a turbulent campaign, with Dyche their third different manager already following Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.
The City Ground side are just five points clear of the relegation zone, and the precarious position is doing little to help them retain star players, with Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson and Murillo all attracting major interest from Premier League rivals.
Eddie Howe Hints at New Signings
Yet to register any major transfer activity in January, Newcastle could step up their efforts for reinforcements amid recent defensive injuries.
The Magpies have lost Tino Livramento and Fabian Schar to worrying setbacks and have also been without Dan Burn and Emil Krafth in recent games, while captain Jamaal Lascelles is available for transfer.
Eddie Howe insisted last week that Newcastle ‘have to be ready to act’ in the January market amid setbacks piling up, and has not ruled out the club recalling left-back Matt Targett from his loan at Middlesbrough.
Newcastle Submit Norton-Cuffy Enquiry
Genoa right-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy appears to be among the options being considered by Newcastle at the moment, with the club submitting an enquiry for the former Arsenal starlet.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Ben Jacobs, the in-demand defender could leave Bologna this winter and is also being tracked by Everton, West Ham, Napoli and Juventus.
