ELLERTON is expected to keep the Joe Tizzard bandwagon rolling with a win in the Trucksmith 40th Anniversary Handicap Hurdle (2.15) at Taunton today.
He scored once on the Flat when trained in France, but Ellerton failed to find the target 11 starts over jumps in Britain, eight defeats coming for Syd Hosie and three for Tony Charlton.
But the son of Zoustar moved to Tizzard before lining up against seven opponents for a novices’ handicap at Wincanton last March.
The market vibes were strong – my selection went off the even-money favourite – and Ellerton justified the support in style, travelling comfortably for Brendan Powell before stretching out to beat Joxonne by a length and three-quarters.
A 7lb rise was to be expected given the ease of that win and Ellerton now jumps from a 0-90 handicap to a more competitive 0-120.
But the evidence of his first start for Tizzard is that Ellerton still has a significant ‘up’ side and, with the stable roaring along, he’s taken to make the perfect return from eight months on the sidelines.
At Uttoxeter, SOLDIER’S LEAP gets the vote to supplement a return-to-action score at Stratford four weeks ago when he takes on eight rivals for the Signs 2000 Handicap Hurdle (3.15).
