Nottingham Forest determined to sign David Soria in January and won't give up

Nottingham Forest are now determined to bring in a “colossal” new signing very soon, and they won’t give up on securing his signature.

Forest keen to boost survival push with new signings

Forest took a major step towards preserving their Premier League status by defeating West Ham United earlier this week, moving seven points clear of Nuno’s side in the process, but they remain keen on making new additions to the squad this month.

When asked about the current transfer dealings, Sean Dyche said: “You can be as optimistic as you want until the pen’s on the paper and it’s done – but, yeah, there’s certainly ongoing conversations of situations, that’s for sure.

“The club have been very open with me and my staff – I don’t know how it’s been previously but I’ve spoken to them about what we think.”

One position in which the Tricky Trees are clearly looking to strengthen is goalkeeper, and it recently emerged they have joined the race for Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin, with the La Liga giants now potentially willing to sanction a departure.

According to a report from AS (via Sport Witness), Nottingham Forest are also vying to sign another La Liga goalkeeper, with it being revealed they are determined to seal a rapid deal for Getafe star David Soria.

Forest are looking to sign Soria as quickly as possible, and they won’t give up, even if a deal isn’t possible until the end of the season, at which point the goalkeeper will be available on a free transfer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

The Tricky Trees have been keen on the Spaniard for quite some time, having decided to strengthen between the sticks, as John Victor and Matz Sels have been in and out of the starting XI this season.

“Colossal” Soria could be upgrade on Sels and Victor

Nottingham Forest could do with bringing in a new goalkeeper, with Sels set to turn 34 before the end of the season, and the Getafe star could be an upgrade on the Pole and Victor.

Over the past year, the 6 foot 4 colossus has averaged a save percentage of 74.2% per 90, while Sels has averaged 69% and Victor just 60%, with the Brazilian ranking in the bottom 1% of goalkeepers on that metric.

Journalist Alvaro Canibe has also lauded the Madrid-born shot-stopper, saying: “Thumbs up for David Soria. His excellent level on the pitch has only been surpassed by his courage, leadership and attitude off it. This season has made his importance clear. Captain without the armband. Colossal.”

As such, Soria could be an excellent signing for Forest, with Dyche clearly in need of a new goalkeeper, given that both Victor and Sels clearly haven’t impressed him, having been rotated in recent weeks.
