Nottingham Forest's Chris Wood looks dejected after the match

Nottingham Forest are set to hold crunch talks over a deal for a “powerful” new forward today, as they look to convince him to move to the City Ground.

Earnshaw urges Forest to bring in new forward

Robert Earnshaw believes his former club need to bring in new attacking options this month, saying: “I do like Igor Jesus… He’s got great movement, the positions he takes up in the box.

“I think Forest would benefit from having an extra forward… The main thing is goals…the one quality is have you got somebody who can create chances and score goals, they can finish, they’re talented in finishing, that’s the biggest thing for Forest.”

Chris Wood has been sidelined with a knee injury since the end of October, and considering there hasn’t been a new update on when the centre-forward could return for quite some time, it could make sense to bring in a new striker before the end of the January transfer window.

Yesterday, Sky Sports confirmed the Tricky Trees have agreed loan terms with Napoli to sign Lorenzo Lucca, with reports from elsewhere revealing they will have the option to make the deal permanent for £30m.

There has now been a new update on Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of Lucca, with a report from Il Mattino (via Sport Witness) revealing Nottingham Forest are set to hold a meeting with the striker’s entourage today.

Crunch talks are pencilled in within the next few hours, with Forest set to try and convince the centre-forward to move to the City Ground, although there could be competition for his signature, as Serie A side Pisa are also keen.

“Powerful” Lucca could be exactly what Forest need

The Italian has been lauded as “powerful” by scout Jacek Kulig, who also described him as a “clinical finisher”, and his ability in front of goal was on regular display last season, picking up 12 goals and two assists in 33 Serie A outings for Udinese.

As Forest are just five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone, they need some inspiration from somewhere in the second half of the season, and commentator Adam Summerton has made it clear the six foot seven colossus has plenty of self-belief.

Summerton said: “He’s very self confident, bordering on arrogant – famously disobeyed team orders to take a pen last season. Determined, a competitor and physically strong.”

With Igor Jesus on just one Premier League goal all season, and Wood still sidelined, Nottingham Forest definitely need to bring in a new striker this month, so they must do all they can to convince Lucca to join in the talks planned for today.
